More from John!

jack-torchwood-series-3John Barrowman was interviewed by DigitalSpy recently, and the actor briefly discussed his thoughts regarding the future of Torchwood, the infamous ‘Ianto-gate’, and whether or not he will be back in this year’s Doctor Who Christmas specials…

“We’re in discussions about the possibility of doing a Series 4 of Torchwood,” he revealed. ”I would hope it would be 13 episodes - much bigger.”

He added: ”I don’t know if they’d do 13 as one story, or if they’d do 5 as one story then the rest another story, or how they would work it, but I would hope that they’d give us 13 episodes.”

When asked about the controversy the show has faced following the death of Ianto Jones, played by Gareth David-Lloyd, in Series 3, Barrowman said: “Ianto was a really popular character and he was a great companion for Jack. Their relationship was ground-breaking on television, but, as has always been said from the beginning of Torchwood, people die young. We were all gutted, but we all realised that it had to happen. Nothing we can do.”

And, of course, the question on everybody’s lips – to what extent (if any) will Jack be appearing in David Tennant’s final episodes, due to air at the end of the year?

“If I’m ever asked to go back, I will go back and do an episode because I love it and I think it’s fantastic,” he said, before finishing: “You’re just gonna have to watch and see. I’m not saying anything.”

Dear Mr. Barrowman, if Torchwood characters die young then please explain to all us grieving Ianto-fans why Gwen is still alive? I think there is only one answer: Because Gwen is the nice, white, straight, married, pregnant girl from the neigborhood and not the queer faq f…g his male boss. It’s a shame that an openly gay and proud actor like Mr. Barrowman still wants to be involved with a series whcih ahs such a homophobe aganda. It’s even mreo a shame that all this was written by an openly gay man. Jack/Ainto coudl indeed have made TV-history and changed some minds. Unfortunately this opportunity was wasted for just a few momenst of cheap drama.

How could Torchwood, of all things, have a homophobic agenda?

This has got to be a wind up! I admit when I first saw what happened I was upset but then it is important to know WHY they killed Ianto instead of gwen. Jack was in love with Ianto and because of what happend to Ianto, Jack was emotionally pushed into doing the terrible thing of killing his own grandson to save the world.

If Ianto had been kept to live, Jack would have no reason to kill steven. Its a sad thing to happen but it was good for the story

OK – let’s knock this myth on the head.

Steven wasn’t killed because Ianto died. Steven was killed to save the other children on Earth and because there was no other child that could be found to be sacrified in the time available.

We have seen throughout the previous two series that Jack has a history of making hard choices in defence of Earth and consequently would have made the same decision to use Steven to defeat the 456 no matter whether Ianto was dead or not.

Ianto was killed off because the writers wanted a quick, cheap, easy way to ratchet up the emotional tension and they just weren’t good enough or couldn’t be arsed or didn’t have enough time to come up with anything better.

CoE was a tour de force of bad writing, and Ianto’s death was just the most glaring example.

Can I draw your attention to episode 2, series 1, where Gwen snogs the hell out of an alien in a female, human body? Also to her continuing affair with Owen throughout series 1. Gwen is so not a “nice” girl in series one, whereas Ianto most definitely is a “nice” guy. Ok, so he kept his cyber-girlfriend below the hub who nearly killed them all, but he did that out of love! I think it’s marvellous that a bisexual character was created to be so lovely. Well, I would think that.

Oh, and please remember he was bisexual, not gay. Much like Jack. And, arguably, Toshiko. Tosh, who died at the same moment as Owen, who was about as straight as you got. I don’t think we’ve got any discrimination going on here.
