Liverpool ONE to host Sarah Jane weekend

October 13th, 2009

sja-wedding-doctor-sarahThe BBC have confirmed that the Odeon cinema at the Liverpool ONE in Merseyside will be hosting a huge Sarah Jane Adventures themed weekend at the end of the month, to celebrate the launch of the brand new series on BBC1!

The event will take place at the venue on Saturday 24th October and Sunday 25th October, and the festivities will kick off with an exclusive preview screening of The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith, on the big screen!

Lucky fans in attendance will also get to see behind-the-scenes footage and show stars Tommy Knight and Daniel Anthony, who play Luke Smith and Clyde Langer in the series, will be dropping by for a Q&A session!

There will be a range of activities inside the Liverpool ONE shopping centre, too, including alien face painting, the chance to meet some of Sarah Jane’s scariest foes, as well as her beloved robot dog, K-9, and Xylok supercomputer Mr Smith, a Sarah Jane virtual screen, and free giveaways!

If you’re interested in attending the event, please be aware that the preview screening is free, however tickets must be reserved beforehand and they are being managed on a first come first served basis, so the sooner you apply, the better! All of the other activities are also free to take part in.

The next series of The Sarah Jane Adventures starts this Thursday at 4:35PM.

Well i went! Had a ball, unfortunately my fiance’s little sister Meg was a tad poorly so she didnt want to stay for all the activities but we did go to a screening and some other little bits.

First off i have to say, they only screened the first episode dammit! They wanted us to wait til friday so we could see it like evryone else.

So ill go through in order then…

First off, we were one of the first to get there, and saw them setting up the Mr Smith attic set before we went into the cinema foyer where they had a photo area with K-9 on a plinth to have your photo with, and also a green screen so you can be filmed in front off the SJA titles.

After a few mins the VIP’s arrived… Luke, Clyde and Rani!!! As we were the only ones to see them at first we went and said hello, and they were really nice, but the PR people whisked them away before we could get photos and autographs, but they promised they would after.

So into the screening we went and we were shown a preview reel of new programmes coming to CBBC in the next 6 months (the new Tracey Beaker really made Meg excited lol)… after that the host was telling everyone that we would be the FIRST outside of the SJA/Doctor Who production team to see the episode. But he said not to worry, as the monsters will be on screen, and not in the cinema….

SUDDENLY a JUDOON walks in!!! Full suit, no helmet, mouth gnasing, eyes moving, ears twitching and he starts to walk up the aisle staring at the kids, who start scootching up the seats lol… he walked back down and out to the foyer (people could have a photo with him and K-9 then)

So the episode starts… and it was good!! I dont really want to go into too much detail about it, but my favourite moments were the interactions between Mr Smith and K-9, chasing the slug (it’ll make sense when you see it), and of course the final scenes at the wedding….

Sorry to disappoint you all, but while DT is in the first episode, he’s only in it at the end for a few seconds.

The images of the White Trickster are explained briefly, and there are a few moments which really look like this could be the beginning of the end for the Attic Gang. Really looking forward to friday now!

After the episode we saw the next time glimpse, and a video diary from Clyde from David Tennant’s last day playing the Doctor… he looks like he had a ball, and genuinely upset that its over. A few fun moments with Clyde, Luke and Rani tryin on his coat too lol.

After that, they brought the three kids out for some Q&A. The usual questions where there, like whats it like being famous (Luke said he always gets mobbed by his little brothers friends when he picks him up from school).

Someone asked if there was any chance of a Luke and Rani romance after a brief moment in the episode, to which they replied “if i said anything, i’d have to kill you”. Make of that what you will….

My question was answered, and was the last of the session. “What would your character rather do? Be a companion to the Doctor, or be in Torchwood?” Rani would want to be a companion so she could “pimp the Tardis, make it pink, and had a rave in there”. Both the boys wanted to be in Torchwood for the guns and the action, Luke seemed especially enthusiastic for that.

So that was that! A couple of kids where asked to give their veiws on the episode in the “CBBC Diary Room”, while we had to fill out cards asking us to score the day.

Outside Clyde was getting photos with people at the K-9 booth, but as Meg wasnted to go home, we didnt queue up, but he spotted us from earlier and quickly signed some postcards for us. Luke and Rani sadly werent around.

So that was my day yesterday then! Hope you enjoyed reading about it!
