February 1st, 2010

tenth-doctor-regenerationBARB have today published the final viewing figures for part two of The End of Time, which aired on New Year’s Day.

The episode - David Tennant’s last in role as the Tenth Doctor - was watched by an official audience of 11.79million on BBC One, making it the 2nd most watched programme of the day behind EastEnders!

Meanwhile, 482,000 tuned in for its simultaneous broadcast on BBC HD, the highest figure achieved by the channel that week.

Adding both of those scores together gives the historic episode a total viewership of 12.27million. It was the third most watched Doctor Who episode since its 2005 revival, after 2007’s Voyage of the Damned which was watched by 13.31million, and 2008’s The Next Doctor, watched by 13.1million. Stay tuned!

To be the second most watched programme on Christmas Day is an impressive achievement, and the figures aren’t bad either. Especially in these days of multi channels, and people watching DVDs rather than TV.

Eastenders? Pah, they don’t even have a TARDIS :)
