series-5-trailer-discussion-grass

As promised, the second official trailer for Series 5 of Doctor Who, a specially-shot CGI sequence to promote its imminent launch, has had its nationwide debut! Not only did it bring us some new and intreguing shots of the Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond whirling through the time vortex (as your do!), but it also came with a dollop of reassurance that the new series is definitely on its way!

What did you think of tonight’s thrilling trail? How many times have you replayed it? Has watching it made you even more excited for their upcoming adventures, or is it just a painful reminder that the show as we know it is changing before our very eyes? Let us know!

Feel free to leave your thoughts and discuss your outlandish theories in the comments of this post! Have your say today! Geronimo!

Our first look at Series 5 was unveiled on New Year’s Day following the broadcast of The End of Time, Part Two.

I’m not really sure what to think at this stage, it didn’t really show much.

That was depressing. While it was actually great, I thought they meant “preview” as in “a bunch of clips from the first few episodes to show off the new series”, not “preview” as in “a confusing teaser that isn’t a teaser trailer in which Amy is almost in audible due to the music, while the Doctor isn’t”.

So, I’ll just wait until the actual trailer next month and watch last month’s preview for now.

That was amazing, very good promotion etc. Problem is, i’m on Holiday in Easter, must be able to watch it across the pond though, surely?!?!

This was a promo right? not an actual trailer with footage… is it different in the uk or something?

arrrgh I stayed up all night just for that!?

Don’t call it a trailer, if it’s not a damn trailer… I thought it was gonna have stuff from the new episodes.

Anyway it was ok, the graphics have gotten better, can’t wait to watch.

    Oh dear.
A very cheesey, and cleche look at Doctor Who, it really has gone down hill from David leaving.

I loved it. A little frustratitng not seeing any of the new series. Interesting portrayal of the Doctor by Mr Smith. Can’t wait till Easter.

I thought it was great, though I AM annoyed it didn’t show and of the new series.

And surely it can’t have been canon? ‘Cos how could the Doctor and Amy survive breathing, let alone being in the Vortex and fighting monsters?

I really liked the look of it, and it seems the graphics are improving hugely.

I sincerely hope the new series is the Doc and Amy flying throught the Vortex each week, off to new adventures like some strange kid’s programme.

Matt’s Doc is slowly growing on me. Can’t wait for the new series. This “trailer” looked slightly too CBBC (though DW is, technically, a kids show so can’t really complain too much) for my liking but on the plus side Doc 11 and Amy look good together, and there were Daleks and Weeping Angels.

It contained fancy shots of them flying through the vortex but we were promised a trailer and that showed absolutely nothing! It’s such a shame because the trailer they showed in January looked really promising! Bit dissapointed really but hopefully the first episode of Series Five will make up for it!

It was brilliant the vortex i have to admit looks substantially better to the previous one… much more…. INSPIRATIONAL!!!

So sad watched it 10 times on line in the USA lol,

Am I the only one who is pleased? Whilst it shows no new info, when was the last time the BBC went to the expense of producing a special trailer rather than mixing filmed shots from the upcoming series. Hopefully this is an indication of how much effort they are putting into this being a success

Oh and also when Christopher Eccleston left everyone said the same thing and lets face it that did not work out to badly did it, at least wait till you have seen the 10th Doctor in action before judging

I don’t see why everyone is whining about new shots, this trailer is absolutely fantastic! You can see they’ve clearly put the effort in to promote the hell outta this show. Technically, more non canon footage is more overall because you’re gunna see the canon stuff in a few months so its all good!

It was good, but like most doctor who trailers, it doesn’t acctually show much about what will happen in the next series.

    @Jack
Really? David left and Matt had a couple of minutes on screen and your claiming -

“it really has gone down hill from David leaving”

I say it went down hill from David joining. Seriously it can only get better. What is so different about this than those promos that Chris E and Billy P did?
I have siad this before and I will say it again. David Tennant is one of 13 actors to play the role. There have been better than him and there have been worse.

CAMPAIGN - Give Matt Smith a go before you diss him!

  17. February 20th, 2010 at 23:43 | #17

I love his voice. I’m not sure why. It’s slightly posh, just slightly. And I’m not disappointed either - anything is brilliant now.

RUBBISH!!!!!!! ABSOLUTE RUBBISH! IT LOOKED MORE LIKE A BBC TEST CARD! No new footage and just same old stuff we’ve seen before.

    RUBBISH!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought the promo was cool and different! What’s with the weird face at the end?

  20. February 21st, 2010 at 08:13 | #20

@pirko I haven’t seen any of it before. I think that the series is going to be great and any sort of trailer we get is worthwhile, they’ve put time and effort into it and I cannot wait to see episode 1.
