nina-wadiaNina Wadia has revealed that her time spent filming her guest role in a forthcoming episode has reassured her that the show is in safe hands, and that she’s sure this year’s series of Doctor Who will the best since its revival.

Speaking to MSN, the actress, best known as Zainab Masood from EastEnders, said: “I think Matt will make a great Doctor Who - he has a real charm about him, a kind of David Tennant charm, but he will make the part his own. He’s a talent in his own right.”

Reports suggest that Wadia will be playing an evil psychiatrist in the first episode of the new series, and she confirmed in the interview that many of her scenes are with Arthur Darvill, who will be playing Amy’s fiance, Rory. She described the actor as “fabulous, with great comic timing”.

She finished: “I’m really looking forward to seeing this series. I think it will be the best yet, definitely.”

Series 5 of Doctor Who begins next month on BBC One and BBC HD. Stay tuned!

Matt Smith isn’t the only one swapping the Series 5 shoot for a photoshoot in the lead up to the forthcoming series – his co-star Karen Gillan, who will be portraying the Eleventh Doctor’s fiesty new companion Amy, also glammed up for a recent session with InStyle magazine! You can check out a preview of the images below, posted earlier today by The Daily Mail:

Inside the issue, which is out now, the actress discusses what it’s been like taking on such an iconic role, and admits that she was initially put out by the prospect of having to follow in the footsteps of the long line of popular actresses who have preceded her. The newspaper quotes: “‘It’s a pretty terrifying role, but a huge privilege to be part of an iconic show. I’m following a long line of great actresses who have played the companion, so it’s quite daunting. I’d love to sit down with them and have a good chat about it.”

She also reveals that she didn’t tell her family she’d got the part until an hour before the news was made public in May last year. “My boyfriend knew,” she said. “I didn’t tell anyone else, including my mum – she’s a huge Doctor Who fan and I didn’t want to lumber her with the secret.”

eleventh-doctor-artemisBBC Worldwide have fully purchased 2|entertain, meaning they’ll carry on working together to publish the DVDs and Blu-rays of various BBC programmes – including Doctor Who, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures – for years to come!

The future of the company has been in doubt since 2008, following the downfall of Woolworths, which owned a 60% share.

However, BBC Worldwide have now managed to fund its remaining rights and will continue to contribute releases not only in the UK, but also in over 60 countries around the world, including North America, Australia and Japan.

The next new series DVD/Blu-ray to be released by the distributor will be Volume 1 of Series 5, featuring The Eleventh Hour, The Beast Below and Victory of the Daleks, the temporary cover of which was unveiled earlier this week. It’s scheduled to be released on 7th June 2010.
