matt-smith-esquireThe forthcoming issue of SFX Magazine, Issue #194, not only features a fantastic 3D cover to mark the launch of Series 5, but inside there’s also a brand new interview with the man who will be portraying the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith!

And the SFX website has today released a snippet of the interview ahead of the release of the magazine later this week, in which the actor offers a few tantalizing hints as to what we can expect from his first episode!

“I think there’s a magic to it. Steven has written a rather brilliant fairytale, in such a magical way,” he teases. ”The Doctor’s getting to know his new body, which is just brilliant, all the great stuff that Steven’s done with that.”

He adds: ”What’s interesting about this particular series is that it has a thread twining through it. And you learn about that in episode one. And the Doctor’s scoping it out. It’s quite important for the rest of the tale.”

You can read the full interview, as well as interviews with Karen Gillan (Amy Pond) and showrunner Steven Moffat, in SFX Magazine #194, to be published this coming Wednesday!

series-5-trailer-grassMatt Smith and Karen Gillan will be taking part in an epic voyage around the country later this month to promote the launch of the long-awaited fifth series of Doctor Who, their first in role as the Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond!

The nationwide tour will kick off in Belfast on Monday March 29th.

Gillan’s hometown, Iverness, will be taking centerstage on Tuesday March 30th, and they’re set to arrive in Sunderland later that day. They’ll be heading to Salford on Wednesday 31st March, finishing that afternoon in Smith’s hometown of Northampton!

And that’s not all – they’ll be travelling to each destinaton in a specially-themed tour bus, featuring the brand new logo and TARDIS insignia on its exterior, and at each location they will also be introducing an exclusive regional preview of their first episode, the 65-minute Series 5 opening adventure, The Eleventh Hour!

Executive producer Piers Wenger said: “This is a great opportunity for the new Doctor and his companion to interface directly with the people who matter most to Doctor Who: the fans. The chance to visit them in their hometowns will ensure that the 11th Doctor’s maiden voyage is an utterly magical one.”

Meanwhile, from April 1st-3rd, the BBC will be hosting a series of exclusive screenings at BBC Big Screens in the cities of London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Plymouth and Swansea, which will give fans the chance to see the launch promo trailer in all its 3D glory, as well as to get up, close and personal with various foes and monsters from the series!

Exact details for both events are still to be confirmed. Series 5 of Doctor Who is expected to start on April 3rd on BBC One/HD. Stay tuned for the very latest!

The Sun have today posted a few more images taken on location during recent filming for the forthcoming series of Doctor Who!

As we previously reported, this week scenes - believed to be for episodes 7 and 11 of the new series - have been filmed involving Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) holding a fish on a plate, the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) pushing a trolley bursting to the brim with household objects, and the latest incarnation of our beloved Time Lord having a kick about with guest star James Corden! All in day’s work, eh?

And the pictures released today by the tabloid depict the Doctor mysteriously falling out of the TARDIS and staring up in horror at the blue box. Just what is going on? Feel free to share your theories below!

Filming for Series 5 is expected to wrap in just under three weeks time, and it will begin airing on BBC One/HD at Easter.
