It was confirmed today that Doctor Who will be returning for a 13-part sixth series in 2011!

In addition, the BBC have commissioned a Christmas special to air this Winter, which will be written by showrunner Steven Moffat.

Shooting on the episodes will begin in Cardiff in July, with Matt Smith returning as the Eleventh Doctor. The exciting news was announced by executive producer Piers Wenger at today’s Series Five press launch.

Last month, acclaimed sci-fi and fantasty writer Neil Gaiman confirmed that he’ll be penning a Series 6 episode.
