New interviews with Murray Gold and Nick Briggs
DigitalSpy have released two new interviews with Murray Gold and Nick Briggs filmed at the launch of Doctor Who Live on Friday.
In his interview, Murray talks about the joys of composing the music for the series, explaining: “It’s constantly a challenge, and I like a challenge, and so far it hasn’t bored me, because it keeps innovating enough to be interesting to a restless mind like mine, so I’m with it for now. In all kinds of ways, it’s like a journey.”
Meanwhile, Nick noted that it’s “thrilling” to part of the tour, and also touched on the likelihood of the Daleks returning in the forthcoming series. He explained: “Doctor Who doesn’t need the Daleks to be successful. There were many, many years in the past before the series came back where the Daleks didn’t feature, so maybe it’s time for the Daleks to rest. Oh dear – I don’t think my bank manager will be very pleased!”
Do you agree with Nick? Do we need a break from the Daleks? Share your thoughts!

i argee about the dalek comment by nick briggs, i mean 5 series in a row. give it at least 3/4 years break. daleks aren’t the only monsters in WHO – why can’t moffat redsign the cybermen – bring back the mondasian cybermen. DALEKS ARE OVERUSED.
The problem is that the Daleks have attained a rather mythical status in the Whoniverse. They’re seen as the worst. And so they make a very good series finale monster. That said, my favourite Dalek episode of the new series was 1.6, Dalek. One Dalek alone, in all its bronze glory, elevating and demonstrating what it was to be a Dalek by becoming something different. I think by having your Supreme Dalek as well as Davros, you end up parodying them slightly. Yeah, I wasn’t a massive fan of the TSE/JE threat.
There’s another question: in series 1, the Earth was threatened. In series 2, two Earths were threatened. In series 3, the surrounding galaxies were threatened. In series 4, the multiverse was threatened. In series 5, the entire history of the multiverse was threatened. Where on earth do you go from there?
I would’nt say 3/4 years in time spent away , after all they are the Doctors greatest enemies, one series away would be enough to build up there forces and attack again, i think considering there is only 5 of them left in existence they need some time to recouperate, but if they are skipping a series, then boy oh boy get ready for a massive showdown in the finale of series 7 :D
They’s have to make it huge to make the wait worthwhile
Well, it’s nice to have villains with to them than just killing everything… I mean, the enemies with more personality are more 3D and just more interesting. Also, it would get annoying if we had the same enemies over, and over again.
