hugh-bonneville-confirms-series-6-role-on-his-twitter

Hugh Bonneville has revealed on his Twitter that he’ll be guest starring in the sixth series of Doctor Who.

The actor, who has previously appeared as Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham in ITV1’s Downton Abbey and as Bernie in 1999 film Notting Hill, tweeted: “No idea what the weather’s like on earth this day in 2011 because I am elsewhere, IN THE ACTUAL TARDIS ACTUALLY”. He later added that he is playing as a Pirate Captain, however remained tight-lipped when pressed for more details.

The official site quotes him as saying: “When I was a boy, the music and Jon Pertwee’s Doctor had me peeking out from behind the sofa. I am thrilled to be appearing in the new series – this new adventure is not for the faint-hearted.”

ghost-train-department-x-torchwood-audio-details

With the fourth series of Torchwood set to make its way to our screens in July, two brand new audiobooks featuring the team are to be released in the spring!

As we told you back in November last year, Ghost Train and Department X will be available to buy from March 3rd 2011, both at the individual RRP price of £13.25. They will be read by actor Kai Owen, who plays Rhys in the series, and are set pre-Children of Earth, which is good news for Ianto fans, as he’s back in all his glory!

You can read the plot overviews and see the cover artworks for both of the titles below.

Ghost Train by James Goss
It’s not easy being Rhys Williams. You’re married to the sexiest woman in Torchwood. She saves the world for a living, you move lorries round in a timely fashion. Suddenly, you’ve got a mystery of your own. Oh, it starts off being about missing fridges. But it leads to a midnight train pulling into an abandoned platform at Cardiff Station. What is the mysterious cargo that Rhys is unloading from the train? Where’s it going? And what can be behind it? Rhys is going to get to the bottom of it. All by himself, thank you very much. Soon Captain Jack is missing, his wife’s dead, and it’s up to Rhys to try and put everything right. And find those fridges…

Department X by James Goss
G.R. Owen is the last of Cardiff’s old department stores. Times are hard and the ancient firm has gone into administration. But who are the Administrators? What goes on behind the shutters at night? Why are customers disappearing? Torchwood are already investigating; G.R. Owen is the site of their oldest unsolved cases, and Jack is determined to solve it before the store closes forever – which is why Ianto is working undercover in gentlemen’s fashions and Gwen is in handbags. Are the new managers aliens? What connection do they have to the mysterious G.R. Owen? Is Jack the only one looking for the Department of Curiosities, last seen in 1905?

Keep up to date with all the Miracle Day developments at our Torchwood site!

abc1-going-close-to-uk-transmission-for-series-6

ABC1 controller Brendan Dahill has revealed that the channel is hoping to air Series 6 of Doctor Who as close to its UK debut as possible.

Speaking to TV Tonight, Dahill said: “I can’t tell you the date yet because the BBC haven’t told me what date they’re transmitting yet but we’re going close to UK TX again. Australians are great downloaders and they don’t want to wait until Easter to see a Christmas episode, so if we can get it out straight away we will.”

Of course, this is great news for fans Down Under, as it means that they won’t have to wait months to see the new episodes like in previous years. The 2010 Christmas special, A Christmas Carol, was fast-tracked to the channel on Boxing Day, and following its transmission, it quickly stormed to the very top of the Australian iTunes TV chart.

What are your hopes for Series 6? Break YOUR silence in our ongoing discussion!

covers-details-for-forthcoming-april-novels-revealed

This spring will see the releases of three brand new Doctor Who New Series Adventure novels, which we first told you about earlier this month.

Dead of Winter by James Goss, Hunter’s Moon by Paul Finch and The Way Through the Woods by Una McCormack feature the Doctor, Amy and Rory and will be available to buy from April 28th, each with the individual RRP of £6.99. You can read the plot details for each title and check out their covers below. What do you think?

Dead of Winter by James Goss
In Dr Bloom’s clinic at a remote spot on the Italian coast, at the end of the 18th century, nothing is ever quite what it seems. Maria is a lonely little girl with no one to play with. She writes letters to her mother from the isolated resort where she is staying. She tells of the pale English aristocrats and the mysterious Russian nobles and their attentive servants. She tells of intrigue and secrets, and she tells of strange faceless figures that rise from the sea. She writes about the enigmatic Mrs Pond who arrives with her husband and her physician, and who will change everything. What she doesn’t tell her mother is the truth that everyone knows and no one says – that the only people who come here do so to die.

Hunter’s Moon by Paul Finch
Leisure Platform 9 – a place where gamblers and villains rub shoulders with socialites and celebrities. Not a place to cheat at the games table, or to beat the wrong player - as Rory is about to find out. The prize for winning the wrong game is to take part in another. And this game could be the death of him! With Rory kidnapped by the brutal crime lord Xorg Krauzzen, the Doctor and Amy go undercover. But can they infiltrate the deadly contest about to be played out in the ruins of Gorgoror? It’s only a matter of time before Krauzzen realizes the Doctor isn’t a vicious mercenary. It won’t be long before he discovers what Amy is up to.

The Way Through the Woods by Una McCormack
England, today. Between the housing estate and the motorway lies an ancient wood. The motorway bends to avoid it. Last week, teenager Laura Brown went missing. Tonight, Vicky Caine will miss her bus and take a shortcut through the wood. And she will disappear too. England, 1917. Between the village and the main road lies an ancient wood. The old Roman road bends to avoid it. Tonight Emily Bostock and a man called Rory Williams will go to the woods. Investigating events in the present day and back in 1917, the Doctor and Amy are desperate to find out what’s happened to Rory. He was supposed to look after Emily – and now they’ve both vanished. Something is waiting in the woods. Something that’s been there for thousands of years. Something that is now waking up….

Plus, Touched by an Angel by Jonathan Morris, Paradox Lost by George Mann, and Borrowed Time by Naomi Alderman will follow in June. Lots to look forward to!
