Karen Gillan cast as Jean Shrimpton in new BBC film
Karen Gillan will be playing Jean Shrimpton in a new BBC Four film called We’ll Take Manhattan.
The 90-minute drama will explore the model’s love affair with British photographer David Bailey, focusing on their first meeting at a New York photoshoot in 1962.
“I am so excited to be playing somebody who had such a lasting impact on the fashion world,” Karen said.
According to the Daily Mail, filming begins in May, which leaves us wondering about her future in Doctor Who… We’d like to wish Karen the very best of luck with her new role!

Congrats to Karen!
Though I don’t think it means her departure from the show.
Filming begins in May, which is right after Season 32’s filming ends.
The Isherwood movie didn’t prevent Matt Smith to star in A Christmas Carol or any episode of Doctor Who, so even if the next special isn’t an Amy-lite episode, she should be able to do both.
It’s only wishful thinking though. I really love Matt and Karen’s on-screen chemistry, and I’d really like them to stay on the show a long time.
