A BBC press release has confirmed that Piers Wenger has decided to stand down from his post as Head of Drama for BBC Wales.

Wenger – who joined BBC Wales in 2007 – will continue to work on Doctor Who as a ”creative leader” after serving as one of its executive producers since Series 5. Meanwhile, creative manager of Kudos Film and Television, Faith Penhale, has been named as his replacement as the new BBC Cymru Wales Head of Drama.

“I am thrilled for Wales that it has someone as brilliant and experienced as Faith to bring in the next generation of shows,” Wenger said. “The department has blazed a trail across a wide portfolio of in-house and indie shows in the last few years and it’s exciting for us all to have someone with Faith’s huge talent to build on their success.”

Penhale added: “I am thrilled to be joining such an exciting department with a track record for producing some of the most stand-out dramas on British television.”
