The first episode of the new autumn series, Let’s Kill Hitler, will air on the channel at 8:30pm, and you can find out just what’s in store for the Doctor on the network’s official site for the series. Meanwhile, this year’s series of Torchwood, Miracle Day, will be premiering on the channel at 9:30pm on Thursday 1st September, and death is not an option!
The autobiography of Elisabeth Sladen, which was originally scheduled to be released in April, will now be published in 2012, it has been confirmed.
It tells the story of her remarkable life and career, and was completed months before she sadly passed away after a battle with cancer. She first appeared as Sarah Jane Smith in Doctor Who in 1973, and went on to become one of the series’ most popular companions, which ultimately led to her fronting her very own spin off for CBBC.
Her final 3 stories of The Sarah Jane Adventures will be aired as a tribute this autumn.
You can now pre-order two upcoming Doctor Who books on Amazon.co.uk ahead of their releases on 13th October!
First up is The Brilliant Book of 2012, which does exactly what it says on the tin. It is described as the “indispensable” guide to Series 6, and with never-before-seen pics, original artwork, interviews, facts and trivia, we can see why! It also boats exclusive fiction by Neil Gaiman, who also wrote The Doctor’s Wife. Also on the way is The Encyclopedia, the revised and updated edition of the 2007 release.
The Brilliant Book has a RRP of £12.99, while the new Encyclopedia will be priced at £25.

Daniel Mays guest stars in this week’s Doctor Who episode, Night Terrors, and has told SFX that he was attracted to the role because it focuses on the “relationship between a father and a son”.
“I’ve got a five year old son, and the key to the story for me was this relationship,” he said. “It’s really quite touching and moving and a psychological story, which I connected to. I just thought it stood up as a really good story in itself. It’s a very well written episode. The end is really great.”
SFX have also shared their spoiler free preview of the episode, containing 20 teasers.

Plans are already underway for the 50th anniversary in 2013, and Matt Smith has recently revealed that he’d like to see the Doctor quite literally enter a new dimension as part of the celebrations!
As the Metro.co.uk reports, the actor’s told BANG Showbiz: “I am interested in all this 3D stuff. If it could be filmed for 3D TV that would be fun, but it is all very expensive, so I don’t know how they’d do it.” He’s also previously expressed an interest in a multi-Doctor ep for the landmark year.
Meanwhile, he’s confirmed in the same interview that, after this year’s Christmas special has been filmed this autumn, filming won’t resume until next year. “How they’ll actually schedule it, I dont know,” he said. “All I know is we start in February.” This ties in with Steven Moffat’s recent comments that Series 7 will be “moving a bit later” in 2012.

After a long summer of waiting, our beloved Doctor graced our screens at last last night in Let’s Kill Hitler, so let’s see how he got on, shall we?
According to the overnight ratings, 6.2million people tuned in for his return on BBC One/BBC One HD, which is a 28.7% of the television share. Although it was BBC One’s highest rated show of the day, unsurprisingly the night was won by The X Factor on ITV1, with 10.6million viewers. The final BARB ratings will be released soon.
The autumn premiere has also been recieved well by the critics! It was “…giddily thrilling entertainment” says the Telegraph, while the Guardian have described the episode as an “energetic, timey-wimey tour de force”. The Independent have praised actress Nina Toussaint-White for her “sassy and vivacious” portrayal of Mels, and SFX predicts: “This has to rank among the cleverest Who episodes Moffat has ever written”, giving it a 5/5.
Over in our ep discussion, Hannah has written: “That was one brilliant episode”, while Jay has said that the episode was “superb”. Bad Wolf agrees: “It feels so good to have the show back”, and A C pegg summarises: “Too much, too quick, too complicated”…
Series 6 continues next Saturday 3rd September in Night Terrors at 7pm on BBC One.
