Matt Smith has revealed that he hopes Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary in 2013 is “something unique”.

“I think we’ve got to do something that’s an event. We’ve got to create an event, absolutely,” he told SFX at Comic Con. “That is certainly the plan. I don’t know what that is. The powers that be upstairs will decide that. But I’m hoping we can definitely make it something unique. It’s about creating an event for everyone who’s been involved with Who, the fans included.”

Matt recently said that he’d “love” for the celebrations to include a multi-Doctor ep.

    They can create an event by launching a televised eighth doctor series! Please? Pretty please?

    @Miken
    I would want anything but the Time War. Sorry, but the budget of the show wouldn’t be able to justify something like that, as the amount of visual effects required would be as large as a typical summer blockbuster. Even for something as major as this, where the Beeb will very likely through a whole load of money at it, it still wouldn’t be enough. Added to that, every audience member preceives the events of the Time War differently, based on the snippets we’ve seen. So naturally if it were to happen it would be someone else’s interpretation, whether it be Steven Moffat or Russell T Davies, so it wouldn’t live up to expectations. The Time War is just one of those things that should be left to the imagination, or if it does happen then it should be a seperate 6-part spin-off with Paul McGann, and not as the 50th Annivesrary story.

    A multi-Doctor story is soemthing almsot everyone wants and if it does happen I just can’t see Tom Baker coming back, for those who do want him to return. Because even using the ‘Time-Whimey’ explanation not only for does he look far too different, come 2013 he’ll be 79, which would hold him back severly. Having said taht though I think he should have some sort of role in it, such as another Time Lord. Bar Chistropher Eccleston, the rest could easily come back, even Colin Baker because once he puts on that hideous outfit you’ll instantly be sold he’s the Sixth Doctor.
    However, the best thing that can happen would be an epic 5-part story set on Gallifrey; because you just can’t celebrate such a major anniversary without the Time Lords and Gallifrey being in it. They might have been destroyed in the Time War, but remember this is science fiction, so anything can happen. If RTD could bring them back for David Tennant’s final story, then the Moff can bring them back for an event such as this.

    So IMO the minimum we should expect from the 50th Anniversary story is one set on Gallifrey and the return of the Time Lords, but here’s hoping for some of the previous Doctor’s to return.

    Please, ‘The Eleven Doctors’ would make me weep with pleasure, especially if their was a amalgamated title sequence. Or, if there going to regenerate Matt at the end (I personally want him to go for 9 years)they could call it ‘The Twelve Doctors’.
