John says they’re “still waiting” for Series 5 news
John Barrowman has revealed that the Torchwood cast and crew are “still waiting” to learn if a fifth series will be given the green light.
“We don’t know if there is going to be another series yet, so were still waiting to see,” he told Entertainmentwise. He added that, if there is more on the way for Jack, he’d like to delve deeper into his past. He explained: “I’d love to see Jack time travel a little more, and I love going back in time to his past. I think that’s nice to explore.”
The current series concludes in the US this week, and then next Thursday in the UK.
Unravel the latest Series 4 developments in our ongoing and dedicated discussion…
John’s currently doing the promotion rounds for his new Best Of album, Tonight’s the Night, out now. He will also be embarking on his latest nationwide tour next month.

I’d like the show to continue, but headed by another writer. I just don’t think Davies is handling it very well.
The first few episodes were almost enough to make me stop watching. Just my opinion :/
@The Parminder Victorious
i agree and make it back in the uk and with lots of different episodes and aliens again!
No leave the aliens to doctor who proper, torchwood works best when its focus is on humans making decisions, eg the cabinet meeting in children of earth
I would love to see a return to the UK now that they’re done with the CIA.
Hey! They never found the Glasgow Torchwood, did they? How about giving BBC Scotland a try? And maybe Barrowman would use his Scottish accent sometimes. heehee :D
Oh wait, it was Torchwood 4 that was missing. But in any case I stand by my above (dare I say brilliant) idea. ;)
I really think Torchwood should go back to its roots. I mean, Children of Earth worked brilliantly as it was while Miracle Day tried to replicate that success by focusing on what the writer’s thought made it a success.
Children of Earth was only partially fantastic because it focused on humanity, but it was the alien intervention and their demands that created the divide between the human race.
Miracle Day was good because it had a nice story at its heart, but it was delayed by too many unimportant stories in the first half. The nice thing about the second half of the series is that you can group the episodes into pairs, meaning the series could have worked if it were only five or six episodes.
@e.p
lol. I have to say that is a great idea. I wonder what will happen with rex
Apparently the latest news is that a fifth series has been commissioned and will premiere in January which isn’t that unbelievable really. However, this could possibly mean that they’ve finally made the right decision and cut down the length of the series.
@TE
One important thing to note: if Series Five has been commissioned, then they really need to get James Marsters back as Captain John (given how he wants to come back and Captain John was a good character) and Chris Chibnall (who obviously could be returning seeing as he was credited at the end of Episode Ten) as they were what made Series Two a brilliant series.
@TE
Premiere in January! They’d better start filming (and let Barrowman know about it). I don’t want to be rude and doubt you, but are you sure? ;)
Captain John was good, I’d like to see him back too.
@e.p
To be honest, I’m really doubting it myself :D
The Australian broadcast of Episode Ten (which is pretty much exactly the same as the UK version) apparently ends with a teaser that “Captain Jack will return in 2012″. I suppose the only way to know if this is true will be to wait until Thursday and see if the teaser does exist, or wait until Starz/the BBC officially announce it ;)
Okay: the Australian teaser is indeed real, confirms that date of January 2012 and is definitely advertising Torchwood, not a possible Doctor Who return for Jack.

I personally don’t think that’s Series 5 confirmation, because why would they not air it in the US as well? We’ll have to see whether or not they air it in the UK on Thursday but I think it could be promoting something like UKTV’s re runs of Series 1-3 maybe, starting in January.
@Patrick
The reason many people don’t believe it’s a promotion for repeats of Torchwood is because of the whole “will be back” thing. I mean, over here, when a show ends with “will return” it usually means that there will be another series.
Also, given that it premiered on UKTV which is a BBC owned channel, it is quite possible that it’s confirmation and will air at the end of the UK broadcast on Thursday.
I really want to see another series after seeing the new series the last eposide brought tears to my eyes and i think they should carry the story on!! Theres a plan B so why dont they explore that? and bring a bit of jacks past into it?
surely wrex is going to be brought back? they cant just leave it on such a cliff hanger there are so many people wanting it all again!
