Happy Birthday, Doctor Who!
It’s Doctor Who’s anniversary today – time to look back and celebrate 48 years of everybody’s favourite Time Lord!
On this very day in 1963, the first ever episode, entitled ‘An Unearthly Child’, was shown on BBC One (at 5.15pm to be exact!), and William Hartnell was introduced to the world as that mad but wonderful man with a box. The rest is history!
All these years later, the Doctor keeps getting madder, and there are no signs of him slowing down any time soon!
With this year’s Christmas Special just around the corner, a new series about to go into production, plus “extensive” plans for 2013’s big 50th anniversary, and even a feature-length movie in development, the show’s future is looking very, very bright!
But before we look to the future, let us delve into the past! How did you become a fan? Who’s your Doctor? What have been your highlights from the last 48 years? Reminisce!

happy birthday to the best show on the telly. happy 48th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy 48th birthday to the greatest show ever! Although my favorite doctor is mr Tennant, i have fond memories of first seeing doctor who with the great Jon Pertwee and Elisabeth Sladen! There are so many great highlights even for recent years. But for me the most recent would have been the return of Sarah Jane Smith in Tooth and Claw for series two and the unforgetable return of Rose Tyler in The Stole Earth/ Journey’s End in series four. But there are so many great ones to name them all! May Doctor Who grace our tv’s for many more years to come!
@Shauna Curtis
Liz Sladen returned to the series in ‘School Reunion’, the episode after ‘Tooth and Claw’. And Rose returned in ‘Turn Left’, not ‘The Stolen Earth’, but even then you could techincally say ‘Partners in Crime’. Just thought I’d correct you.;-)
But yes, Happ Birthday to the Doctor – star of the greatest show of all time, and one of the longest running.
Happy birthday Doctor Who :) Here’s to another thousand years or so x
Happy birthday Doctor Who! Here’s to 48 more glorious years!
Happy birthday :D !!!!1
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday, dear Doctor, happy birthday to you!
48 years, and still going strong! Not many TV series can say that, and certainly no sci-fi ones. May it continue FOR ALL TIME!!!!
48 Years since William Hartnell appeared as Doctor Who. In Black and White as well. Times change and the show along with it.
Happy Birthday to the Best show on TV in the whole univerese!!!!!! Doctor who :)
I’m a relatively new fan to Doctor Who, only starting to watch it when the 9th Doctor regenerated into the 10th. Doctor Who gave me a place to go when a reboot meant I couldn’t watch another Sci-Fi series.
Let us just hope that a reboot movie won’t mean the end of this franchise too.
Happy 48th Birthday Doctor Who.
Happy 48th DW!
You’ve been thrilling me now for 35 years. Amazing to think I first watched DW in September 1976 – ‘The Masque of Mandragora’, and here I am looking forward to ‘The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe’ next moth.
If I had a wish it would be that William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton could be here to see the programme still entertaining millions.
Happy Anniversary, Doctor Who! Let’s hope for another couple of fantastic years to come. Roll on 2013 for the big 50!
Happy aniversary Doctor who! have been a fan of the show for ages
long may it contunue!
