It has been reported that the Doctor Who cast and crew will be heading to Australia to film next year!

According to TV Tonight, Australia’s leading TV blog, plans are currently underway for “multiple episodes” of the new series to be shot down under, for broadcast in 2013.

If it all goes ahead, it will be following on from the success of The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon, which were filmed on location in the Utah desert.

Would you like to see the Doctor journey down under? Where in Australia should he go?

Series 7 filming begins in February, with its broadcast “moving a bit later” in 2012.

The Doctor’s back on TV next month in The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe.

    More international shooting. Soon they won’t have to come back to Britain.

    Still, multiple Australian episodes on the BBC’s current budget is quite remarkable.

    As long as it’s a good story, I don’t mind where they film it.

    They’ve already done Spain, back in the classic series! How about India? :P We could go on for hours suggesting new countries!

    Anyway, I’m with Ian. I do have to wonder about the budget, though. How do they intend to manage “multiple episodes” on the other side of the world? Recently it’s been two per year, and not so far away as Australia. But then, I suppose if you’re going to book flights/transportation of the the TARDIS to Australia, you may as well get your money’s worth and stay a while!

    One of my friends relatives work on Doctor Who and used to live in Australia. Don’t know if that means something because my mate did not tell me what he did for Doctor Who.

    To be honest, I think this will be the same kind of deal as with The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon where the episodes are co-produced by another company. This could possibly be a co-production deal with a company like ABC. Should be a good few episodes then, as long as the TARDIS doesn’t crash in Australia and get stuck there for most of the series.

    Well, no one said that filming in Australia meant that the story was set in Australia… think about the use of Dubai for “Planet of the Dead”… and now imagine the backdrop of the Australian backdrop being used in someway for a “continent” of Mars… all that red rock and sand… and then, from behind comes lumbering a certain classic villain I think everyone would love to see return! Just a thought…

    Perhaps the Production team should stop wasting money taking film crews and casts else where in the world and invest more into the program. That way better story lines can be developed instead of the dreadful drivel we saw on the screen in 2011.

    Australia, Australia, Australia! We love you! Amen!

    @Steve
    Where a programme is shot and how much is spent on location shooting has nothing to do with how good the scripts are or how long they’ve been worked on.

    Sounds cool – I just hope it doesn’t mean a compromise on the storyline!
