Discussion: Who would be your ideal companion?
As we all know, Amy and Rory will be saying farewell to the Doctor during the next series, paving the way for a new friend to step onboard the TARDIS for the trip of a lifetime.
There is already lots of rumours and speculation about what his next companion will be like, so we thought we’d open up a discussion for you to share all of your thoughts! Who’d be your dream companion? Any actors or actresses you think would be perfect in the role? As always, let us know in the comments below, and describe your ideal companion…

I believe I would be the perfect companion for the Doctor. And I’m sure you’re asking why. Well, for one, I’m American, which although goes against many things British, would be quite an undertaking. Not only that but I know that I’d be the wise, creative, quirky mix of a Donna Noble and Rose Tyler. Those two from the newer seasons of Doctor Who proved to be two of the best companions yet ( not saying that Sarah Jane and Rory don’t add to the mix; they do) but being a female and being that kind of character I believe is something the show needs. So, I really am not looking for anything other than myself in this upcoming series, though I know I’ve not been cast or even auditioned for the role; I believe that I would be the perfect companion.
I think it would be interesting if he somehow got stuck with, maybe, Jack the Ripper. Just for a few episodes until he finds a new companion.
i would like the next companion to be a mixture between martha jones cleverness of working things out for herself without the need of the doctor all the time and donna nobles more funny and human side a charactor with a perfect blend of those two charcators personalities would just be amazing
I wouldn’t like any FORMER FULL TIME COMPANIONS to come back BUT FORMER CHARACTERS like Sally Sparrow or Canton I would not mind at all. I’d also love to see Lady Christina De Souza come back :)
If its a new character overall I’d like to see a male companion this time and for me I’d want Dominic Monaghan hes a terrific actor starred in LOTR, Lost and Flashforward so yeah him :) if female companion Liv Tyler :)
This just shows that I’ve been watching too much Downton Abbey, but I think it would be interesting for him to have a character who disapproves of him slightly, a character who thinks him flippant and whimsical in the face of really very serious issues. Of course, in my head I’ve got Michelle Dockery there, but she’s such an amazing actress that I’m sure she could play many different interpretations of a companion.
Essentially, what I’m looking for is for the Doctor to really change someone’s life. Yes, he changed Rose’s by showing her she could do anything, but after that the companions have largely returned to where they were before, with the arguable exception of Martha, whose life didn’t change *that* much. What I want is for him to change someone’s entire outlook, to take someone cold and make them warm or take someone at rock bottom and show them the view from the top of the world.
And then don’t wipe their memories, kthxbi.
Lacey Turner (Stacey from EastEnders, Lia from Being Human) would make an excellent companion! But it’d be nice seeing a male/Doctor companion for a change, or even an alien.
I think they should bring Jack back for an episode, just to see if he’s still attracted to the Doctor and his bowtie.
I want some one incredibly light hearted and funny and smart but impulsive. Someone curious and in his eagerness to learn about the universe accidentally places himself and the doctor in harms way
Carey Mulligan!
Make alexa havins(esther from torchwood) act her. make it so she meet the doctor before torchwood , has loads of adventures but at the end something happens and it makes her forget the doctor.
Jack Harkness, Romana, a new character who is both female and not romantically hung up on anyone at any point in the series… or any two of these together.
I also really like the idea of him having a truly heinous historical character for an episode or two, as was suggested earlier with Jack the Ripper.
I think Cassidy Freeman should be the next companion. Look her up.
Eliza Dushku
If anyone watches Torchwood too, you’ll get it. So I think it would be cool to see an episode of the Doctor saving that girl Owen fell in love with who went back out through the rift. c:I dopn’t think she’d make a good companion though.
I think an immature, curious, brilliant, logical character would be fun. They have to have flaws. We can relate more if they have flaws. Maybe they could be too curious or something. That sounds cool. :D
I’ve just realised why no one agrees with what I wrote – that was me doing a self-insert without realising. Oops. As we were, guys.
@TSG
Another Downtown Abbey fan: AWESOME!
And I agree that maybe redeeming this next companion might be the way to go! It could be someone sentenced to death by the Shadow Proclamation. And the Doctor is also there having been summoned for something terrible he’s accused of too!
So, to teach them both a lesson the two guilty parties must remain together until such time as Mojo decides they have been rehabilitated!
And to make sure the doctor doesn’t take the poor man/woman (don’t care which) and tries to dump them on the first habitable planet he comes to, they’re tied together by bracelets similar to the ones Jack gave the ninth Doctor when he was keeping the Slovene with him when they went for her last meal.
I could write that whole season easy!
I think tyhe next companion should be an alien. maybethe last one of a species the timewar destroyed. I know that makeup cost would be an issue tho
@Grace
i like downton abbey as well :)
Every companion so far (of the revived series) has been from the modern day but I’d looove to see one from the victorian era or something :) They were going to do that with Martha but changed their minds!
I agree with Katie. I was watching The Next Doctor the other night and I thought she would have made a fantastic companion. She was from the 1800s but she had the right traits to be a companion. She was feisty, fun, tough and helpful. It would be great to see a companion from another century and see how they would fit into the modern day stories.
At the risk of being controversial; I would like to see Martha come back for a run. As good as series 3 was, I felt she was underwritten and no-one knew what to do with her as a character. I think she was not given a chance to show the audience what she could do, as she left at series 3 and the series 4 episodes she was in did not do her justice I felt.
