    My ideal companion would be Karen Gillan. Oh, wait, you meant as in the context of Doctor Who… Oops, silly me.

    how about a pet, this time, like a really wonderful dog. remember in the OLD days (1950’s and 1960’s) a great TV series would feature a PET such as LASSIE or Mr. Ed (a horse) or a wonderful pet that would be man’s (or alien’s) best friend! So? why not? is it not do-able? does it HAVE to be a human actor?

    The show has done enough companions who are from present day in the last six seasons. I’d like to see the show try to mix it up, and tackle a companion who comes from the past, it would introduce some interesting new wrinkles to the overall style of the show, that I would like to see it write around. Maybe someone from the 60s, as a way for the show to comment on itself somehow.

    If that’s not in the cards, here are a few supporting characters who I wouldn’t mind seeing return on a full-time basis:
    -Lady Christina de Souza (Michelle Ryan)
    -Nasreen Chaudhry (Meera Syal)

    Just for one episode : River. I’d really like to see what it looks like in the TARDIS when it’s only the Doctor and River. The “Night” scenes on the Series 6 DVDs are so full of promises !

    The only past companion I would like to see again is Donna. Oh, and Captain Jack too, of course !

    But since the Doctor is set to met a new friend, I hope this friend will be from another time or even another world. However, I need a regular/recurring female element in the show, so if the next companion is male, I hope River will stick around a little longer to balance things.

    Someone from the past or future, maybe? A married couple was a refreshing change (when Amy finally stopped worshipping the Doctor and didn´t fall in love with him as previous companions, except Donna). I would love to see Arthur Darvill to stay a little bit longer. He is great, so is his Rory. I am afraid Amy doesn´t have much further to go and ironically, as much as they tried to make her important in S6, Rory and the Doctor always overshadowed her. So two or three episodes just with Rory and the Doctor would be great.
    As for a new companion – a man companion would be great. Canton Delaware would be great for few episodes.

    @Hayley
    i would love river song to be a permenant companion but as ive said before i dont think this will happen as she comes and goes as she pleases and she never stays round long enough and doesnt do as shes told she dose as she pleases so i dont think she will and theres still speaculation over what she is as the dalek new something after river said im river song look me up and then the dalek screamed for mercy and pleded for its life so i think theres more to river song than meets the eye still and her story isnt fully told i dont think i think stephen moffats keeping a few more cards up his sleeves until the times right to tell us all there is to no but i hope he takes his time telling her full story as i could still watch her for at lest another 3 r 4 years :)

    Definitely interested in seeing a companion picked up from the past; doesn’t even have to be that long ago; the sixties for instance. Just be a bit more interesting than another modern day one, though I know why they go for that generally, makes sense for audience identification.

    Why is everyone stuck in the past? All these calls for River Song, Lady Christina de Souza ort Captain Jack. Been there, done that – move on! How about an American companion played either by Laura Vandervoort or Cassidy Freeman. Or an Australian actress like Lucy Lawless!

    I’d love to see Mark Shepard come back as Canton. I never liked how Canton was one of the four invites the Doctor trusted most, after only one story. If Canton came back as a full companion that would be wonderful. :D And you can never say no to Mark Shepard!

    Didn’t the doctor tell Ida Scott he’d see her again in The Satan Pitt? Just because he was DT at the the time I don’t see where that makes any difference…

    I think the “blue head in a box” would be a fun addition to to the crew for occasional moments. Couldn’t run very fast though.

    @Whovian Who married River? Not The Doctor.

    @Steve I agree with Steve, people need to get past this obsession to bring back old characters. It’s time SM created new and interesting characters. And preferably characters that are not going to involve a soap opera drama.
