Steven Moffat has warned Doctor Who fans that they’ll “be in trouble” when they watch Amy and Rory’s final episode.

The showrunner told Dublin’s University Observer that he is currently writing the couple’s exit storyline, reiterating that it will be “quite heartbreaking” for all involved. “I’m writing that right now,” he teased. “It will be quite heartbreaking. I think you’ll be in trouble watching it.” The characters will say goodbye in Series 7, before the Doctor meets “someone very different” in time for the show’s 50th anniversary.

Filming for the new series begins on Monday 20th February. Toby Whithouse and Chris Chibnall were today confirmed as two of its writers. Stick with us for the very latest…

Brilliant! The more heartbreaking, the better! This coming from the girl who giggled when Sherlock jumped, earning herself odd looks from all her peers…

Hmm I’m not so sure about that, heartbeaking’s been done with the Dr and Rose (and brilliantly done at that !), is there a danger here that we’re not getting anything original ? Could the Grand Moff not come up with somthing a little better than reducing his audience to tears again (allbeit this time intentionally rather than just through a WAY to conveluted story line lol !) ?

Can someone tell me when we have not had a “heart-breaking” moment with these 2 in the last year? The only heart break I can see happening is when the party is over after, finally, this appalling companion with no talent is gone. But we will be raising a glass for Rory!

I have to admit to being bored of all the negativity, as if things in real life aren’t bad enough.

It seems like every future storyline is heart breaking or tear jerking or some other description of an emotional breakdown in relation to Doctor Who…….fun.

I don’t know. If you know something is gonna be as bad as Moffat claims, you kind of dread watching it.

The only dread I’ll have is if their leaving is part of the never ending plot twist that ends up going nowhere. Maybe instead of telling us what you’re doing, how about locking yourself in a room and then doing it. And then not being afraid to hire someone to fill in the gaping holes you’ll leave.

Sorry, not the biggest Moffat fan after last season.

I think part of Doctor Who is the wild swings between heartbreak and all-out fun adventure. It’s a bit like life, I think.

So I’ll be looking forward to seeing how this plays out! I’ll definitely miss Amy & Rory but a new companion sounds exciting!

I’m really sick of Amy and glad to see her go. Rory was pretty good though. I hope the next companion is a lot different and not just eye candy for the guys.

Well, most companion departures have included heartbreak. I just hope it’s not another “Earthshock”. I prefer the companions left alive, so they can live on in our imaginations.

I am very disappointed. Amy and Rory are wonderful characters and I will be very sad to have them leave the show.

    @TSG

    You giggled? I cried!!

I will be sad to see Amy and Rory go. If the Moff is killing them off, it will be sadder because they are married and have a daughter. I am sure that the Moff is thinking of something orginal.

Heartbreaking has been done before with Rose and Donna and was done soo brilliantly that I dont know if compared to their stories, Amy and Rory’s might fall a little flat. But who knows? Moffat could write a truly heartbreaking ending that has us all sobbing, only time will tell.

if its going to be that heart breaking then i think at lest 1 of them will die for it to be really heartbreaking

To be honest: yes, Donna’s exit was heartbreaking (wouldn’t say the same about Rose seeing as Series Two ruined the character for me) but there’s something more distressing about a married couple dying, especially as they probably won’t join their daughter in the core of The Library.

mmm People all seem to think someone’s going to die, maybe someone never existed or is lost forever (the library). “its heart braking for all involved” could be many things. And come on rory has to die at least a couple more times lol

I dont think moffet will kill Amy and Rory off, I would like to think the Doctor take them to the library and tell them what happen to River but she is ok as she is in the computer system.

why cant he just leave it alone. we know they already left the tardis. just keep them in the history and have them pop up once in a while like river always did, that’s all. but…if this is thier exit story and we will never see them again maybe now that irratating narration at the beginning of the show will be gone also!

Presumably you’re talking about the BBC America broadcasts? If so, then I assume they’ll just replace those with another featuring the new companion.

Get them off the show already!!! They’ve been on for too long now, and it’s getting bad. The only other character in the revived series to have two seasons was Rose. She was my second favorite companion ( 1st being Sarah jane smith) and the reason rose was around for a second season was the connection to the doctor. The reason a companion should be around for two seasons is not because of a twisting storyline (which isn’t the greatest) but because of the relationship and connection with the doctor. Amy and rory’s connection is more friendly, like donna’s was. Sure maybe you like them (I didn’t), but if you don’t get rid of them others won’t get the chance to be the doctors companions, and the longer they stay with him the harder it is for other Companions to come on the show.
