Discussion: Your hopes for the 50th anniversary
Unless you’ve been living deep in the Medusa Cascade, you’ll know that next year will be the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, and everybody’s talking about it!
With over a year to go there’s already plenty of rumours and speculation about how the BBC will celebrate the tremendous milestone. With talks of a multi-Doctor special, a movie, and various past characters and foes returning, just how will the landmark year be commemorated? Your guess is as good as ours, but what would you like to see?
In this discussion you’ll be able to share all of your hopes and dreams for 2013. Would you like to see a multi-Doctor ep? Which characters/enemies from years gone by should make a triumphant comeback? It certainly will be a big historic moment – the event is surrounded by lots of expectation already. But what do the “extensive” plans involve?

I would without a doubt die of happiness if there was a movie in which David Tennant meets Matt Smith and there is awesome ten minute battle scene from the Time War… That’s not too much to as for, is it!?
Being the 50th anniversary, it should celebrate the last 50 years of doctor who. So, it could have multiple doctors and companions. And, it can’t be an ep either. Maybe an hour and a half special. And, I really hope to see other time lords, especially the Master. I love that Benedict Cumberbatch rumor.
Multi-Doctor, please, with maybe Tennant doubling as the Valeyard? He would make a great Valeyard, and his grasp on life as Ten would so fit the Valeyard. I’d like to see the Master actually help the Doctor battle the Valeyard. Also a visit from Captain Jack. He does exist throughout time, he has to run into the Doctor sooner or later. Also I’d love to know more about why he left Gallifrey to start with and his stealing the TARDIS. And I want to know more about his family…his wife and children and grandchildren.
A Multi Doctor story would be nice (yes bring out all the Doctors please…) Daleks, they will also be 50, and without them, there very probably wouldn’t still be a “Doctor Who”.And new and suprising stuff. The main reason I watch “Who”!
A multi Doctor story, would be top of the list, but done in a way, that is uniquely different than what has gone before. It has to stand out from the Two; Three and Five Doctors stories. As this is the 50th Anniversary.
The second biggest hope, that Matt doesn’t leave during this Anniversary year, in that to make the anniversary stand out, we meet the 12th Doctor in advance, with 11th regenerating at the end of the year…. You know how Moffat loves his time hoppity-ness…
If a multi Doctor story is not on the cards, there should be tasteful subtle nods to the past history of Who, however that maybe done, it should include Captain Jack, who has become the surrogate Brigadier figure..
Someone mention the The Master? Benedict Cumberbatch? Yes please…!!!!
Not too many recurring monsters or companions….
Whatever it is, it should pack the emotional and adventuress punch of the past and future of Who…
David Tennant meets Matt Smith, looks his bow tie and just says… What, what, what !?!? :D
All I want is great, fun, exciting, scary stories; the best of Who. Moffat can work out the details, but just make it good!
I’d like the 50th Anniversary to be about all of the Doctors.
It is problematic, since people don’t like the idea of re-casting any of the Doctors who are either too old or have sadly passed away. We’ve also lost the Brigadier, Sarah Jane Smith and Liz Shaw, so I don’t pretend Moffat’s job for the 50th Anniversary will be easy with so many fans wanting so much.
If it was up to me, I like the earlier comment about seeing why the Doctor left Gallifrey, see him steal his Tardis, which will be interesting because initially, it won’t be a Blue Police Box, so we’d actually get to see him take the Tardis while it still worked, see it land, the Tardis take on the image and then the Chameleon Circuit break.
Obviously, the thing I’d like to see the most, we won’t see and that’s the Time War. It’d be great to see Paul McGann become the legend that the 9th, 10th and 11th Doctors are known for. Admittedly, you’ll have the problem of seeing the Doctor fighting a war, doing things that could colour your view of the Doctors after the Time War and sadly, we know Chris Eccleston will never come back to Doctor Who, so no 8th to 9th regeneration.
All I ask of Moffat is that he not make the 50th Anniversary an 11th Doctor story only. That would be the ultimate disappointment and an insult to all of the Doctors, Companions, cast and crew before him. He needs to make all of the Doctors in some way hugely significant to the events that will be going on next year.
I am still sad with regards to the end for catherine tates donna maybe her being a ranga and amy pond and river song being rangas could be a link. I am thinking that Matt smith could meet Donna as an elderly lady and with a kind word and a wink let her in on the secret. That Amy is her grand daughter????
If they could somehow incorporate the 10th doctors half human form from the alternate reality that would be amazing, I miss David and Billie very very much! And would very much love to see Paul McGann in there, he was way underutilized and an awesome doctor for his hour and a half of doctordom!
I do hope it is a multi Doctor story with most if not all the companions and the same for the monsters and aliens. You would need the Master, Valeyard and the Dream Lord for the aliens. As for monsters definitely the Daleks, Ice Warriors, Zygons, Cybermen, the Silence and Weeping Angels and even a few more. Probably the Silurians and Sea Devils.
I definitely want to see David T., Billie P., Catherine T., Chris E. and John B. :)
@Ginger
Well Christopher Eccleston definitely isn’t coming back so don’t get your hopes up.
My dream is definitely a multi-Doctor special. And I would also love to see some former companions, especially Martha Jones and Donna Noble. Oh, and Captain Jack Harkness, too! (not too keen on more Rose/Doctor stuff, though)
I’d love to see Captain Jack back, as he hasn’t met the 11th doctor yet.
I’d love to see the Time War, except that I think it’s probably better if we don’t — some things are better left to our imaginations, lest it not live up to expectations. But I would so love to see Paul McGann’s Doctor back on the screen.
I’m not sure if it needs to be something massively epic. I’d love to have some nostalgia in it, though, and there are lots of old companions who haven’t been brought back yet. Ace would be fun to see again, and Sophie Aldred’s aging remarkably well — she could totally pull it off. I’d also love for some good documentaries.
My main *worry* is for them to try and go *too* epic. We’ve had that already on the new series, and it was a little painful. I would like some nostalgia, but I don’t want them to take the “kitchen sink” approach and throw everything in.
I think it would be cool for the 11th doctor to bump into a/some former companion but i’m not sure how that would work. But of course i wouldn’t want it to become too epic either. (David tennant making an appearance would be cool too!)
A story in which Ten & Eleven meet would involve Matt Smith talking to a mirror … or Jeremy Kyle.
I’m absolutely sick of Tennant’s Doctor. End of Time was a great way to say good bye & good riddance to him. End of Time represented everything from that “era” from the ghastly acting from John Simm, to the endless contradictions & plot holes & of course Tennant having another one of his famous teargasms. I’ve found that there are two types of fans. Casanova in Cardiff fans – the people who love Tennant & don’t care about the rest of Doctor Who; and there are Whovians – people who hate Tennant for obvious reasons.
Muppet will never be able to pull off a multi-Doctor 50th anniversary special without lines like: “Question marks are cool” or something.
Whoviannet is about the coming together of fans of the Classic Series, fans of the New Series and fans of both. It’s a positive place and we are respectful of eachother’s opinions and eachother in general.
Other fan sites may not work like that, I’m not sure, but it’s the way our community works.
My fav. doctor is Tennants dr. and yet i am a fan of the entire series. just because i prefer dr. number 10 doesnt mean i dont enjoy every other dr. Matt Smith had to grow on me but i like him alot now. i think this is much like star wars fanatics , they all hate the new movies and swear they are offensive. Makes no sense, just be happy the show came back and continues on. As far as what i would like to see. I want to see Capt. Jack love capt. jack, rose and the half human dr would be awesome, i think we all know what Martha is doing but she shouldnt be left out because of that. I want to see how tens companions react to the new regeneration lol. he is so much younger it should add humor. not to mention River never met Rose so that could be funny too. i think there is potential for several hilarious things just from companions intermingling and the drs mingling with companions that no longer no them. because ten and eleven are so very different, not to mention the doctors that are still alive how different their doctors were. it will be great if they do that.
