Casting: “Iconic” guest to be revealed at midnight!
The BBC will shortly announce an “iconic star” who will be guest starring in Series 7 of Doctor Who!
The identity of the actor/actress will be confirmed tonight at midnight. It’s likely they will appear in this year’s Christmas Special, as the read through took place last week (below).
Matt Smith recently described this year’s seasonal outing as “magic”. It’ll be the first episode to feature Jenna-Louise Coleman as the Doctor’s new companion.
Already confirmed guest stars for the series include David Bradley, Mark Williams, Diana Rigg, Rachael Stirling, Dougray Scott, David Warner and Rupert Graves.
So, another midnight announcement to look forward to (we’re really being spoiled at the moment)! Which iconic star would you like to see cast? Share your best guesses below…

I have never heard of Richard E Grant…
I’ve only ever seen him, well – heard of him on Family Guy. That’s about it.
I am afraid this is another show of how desperate SM has become in trying to make people enjoy the pulp he puts out. If your going to claim an iconic star, then get an iconic star. Richard E Grant does not even rate as a star!
I think it’s because Grant was the 9th Doctor before Chris Eccleston was. Seriously. They were reviving the show as an animated series to be published over the Web, and produced one serial (“The Scream of the Shalka”), which got decent reviews, before Russell T Davies talked the big bosses into something that blew that out of the water entirely: a real revival, with a real budget, filmed in live action. They did audio adventures with Grant’s 9th Doctor afterwards.
I suppose we need to remember that Stephen Moffatt is an uber-Whovian; what’s iconic to him might be a little obscure to most of us. ;-)
To be honest, regardless of who the announcement was about, it’s wrong to call any star “iconic”.
@TE Really? What would you call someone like Judy Dench or Richard Burton then?
@Steve
The point is someone you view as an “iconic star” may not be iconic to another person. To use your example: whilst I may view Dame Judi Dench as iconic, someone else may not.
