In Saturday’s episode the Doctor went to the Wild Wild West but A Town Called Mercy wasn’t his first Western outing.

For this week’s Remember when…, the Sheriff spotlight is on the First Doctor’s 1966 serial The Gunfighters – written by Donald Cotton and directed by Rex Tucker.

When the TARDIS arrived in Tombstone in 19th century US, the Doctor and his companions, Steven and Dodo, faced the wrath of reckless gunslinger Johnny Ringo.

Of course, a Western adventure wouldn’t be complete without a final shoot off, and so in keeping with tradition Johnny’s fate was ultimately sealed in a showdown at OK Corral…
