The morning after: Asylum of the Daleks reactions!
As Doctor Who fans digest last night’s series premiere (not to mention its accompanying shock twist – hat’s off to all the team for keeping that one under wraps!), here is our handy round up of the reactions – spoilers in the articles ahead…
The opening episode was “a zappy, curveball riot” according to the Guardian and the Telegraph praises it for launching Series 7 “in fine style” with a “confident” story. Over at the Independent they’re full of praise for the “blockbuster”, as they note it “would not look out of place at the cinema”.
Digital Spy also enjoyed the “impressive” debut, however they’ve suggested there was “simply not enough time to do the idea justice”, while SFX sums the Dalek adventure up as a piece of “strong cinematically-minded” drama. Do you agree? Have your say too!
In the overnight ratings department, the episode was watched by 6.38 million (29.3%).
And what about that big surprise? Here’s what Steven Moffat had to say about the twist…
“I hope you all got a nice surprise when Jenna popped up in Doctor Who several months early. If so, that surprise came to you courtesy of the frankly magnificent ladies and gentlemen of the press, and of the many Doctor Who forums and blogs too. This show has been seen at four separate screenings, across four different countries and yet not one person gave one spoiler. From all of us on Doctor Who, a heartfelt thank you for helping us tell our story.”
- Steven Moffat
Next time on Doctor Who the Doctor, Amy and Rory face Dinosaurs on a Spaceship.

i watched this eipisode again on bbc i player and i must say i enjoyed it as much the second time around than i did the first
A terrific episode! My only problem with it was that I was distracted trying to figure out if the girl was the actress announced to play the new companion. Of course, I now know that it was her, but it was bugging me the whole time. Can’t wait to see how this new companion/girl in the dalek thing works out!
This is like River song. when we girst met her she was at the end of her life, we saw the end of Oswin but it doesnt mean we dont see her begin
@Simon
To be honest, until the name of the Doctor’s new companion is officially confirmed, it might be safe to say it’s not Oswin Oswald. The reason for this is, in his most recent interview with SFX (post-Asylum), Steven never once said “Oswin” though he continually referred to the Doctor, Amy and Rory.
@Simon It’s probably because Steven Moffat is now incapable off providing anything new to Doctor Who! The most immediate that spring to mind is the similarities between the Angels and The Silence!
