The read through of the 50th anniversary special took place this evening and to mark the occasion the BBC’s released a photo that will make you take a sharp intake of breath!

Two Doctors collided as the cast and crew gathered to hear the historic episode come to life for the first time. Spoken at a table it may have been, but to have Matt Smith with David Tennant in the same room acting out brand new Doctor Who is all we’ll need! The Eleventh Doctor will join forces with his predecessor in the special, which begins filming this week.

Also returning for the blockbuster festivities is Billie Piper reprising her role as Rose for the first time since her last appearance in 2010. She’ll star alongside current companion Jenna-Louise Coleman in the 3D episode, airing on TV, and in cinemas, this November.

The writer of the episode, showrunner Steven Moffat, was overseeing the proceedings.

All i can say about this is: THE SIDEBURNS ARE BACK! I’m not a Tennant fangirl honestly! But I was worried he would return without them! :’) Nice to see they’re coming back too! Hair just needs to get a bit crazier now! ;)

Possible Episode Title: “Another Two Doctors”. Actually, I hope that that cannot be the title as I still hold hope that there will be more Doctors than just Number 10 showing up. It’s certainly great to read than Tennant is returning, but I want more… More… MORE!!! BWAH-HAH-HAH-HAH-HAH!!!!

    Er… sorry.

I hope David is the first of many even if they have to recast the Doctors that are no longer with us!

And every Doctor should have at least one of his companions! I’m so sorry Sarah Jane Smith or Liz Shaw won’t be able to be a part of this but I wouldn’t hate it if one of 3 and 4’s companions showed up! We know Jo is probably somewhere sailing down the Amazon river but I bet she could be found in time! By the way, does anyone know if Leela can still fit into her leather bathing suit?

Delighted to see that Ten is back! Devastated though that Sarah Jane cannot be there.

A great image, but like others have said, it is sad that Elisabeth Sladen can’t be part of it.

They’ve released another image today with Matt Smith, Jenna-Louise Coleman, David Tennant and Joanna Page from Gavin and Stacey.

Sylvester McCoy has again insisted that Doctors 4 to 8 have heard nothing about the 50th Anniversary and have not been contacted about it.

The problem with that statement is, didn’t Peter Davison say he was having a meeting about the 50th Anniversary?

I suppose it could have been about that half-hearted Big Finish multi-Doctor audio thing, but that isn’t officially to do with the

JC — they are also planning other events, including a convention; because he met with them doesn’t mean it was pertaining to anything televised.

And, of course, any of them could be lying….

I think at this point, the lead up to the 50th Anniversary is a rollercoaster ride of excitement and bitter disappointment.

I have no interest in conventions or audiobooks or books, so they don’t factor into the 50th Anniversary for me, so there really isn’t that much going on for me at this point.

In terms of why I say it’s a rollercoaster ride, it started off as a disappointing 11th Doctor fest, but then they announced David and Billie were coming back, which was great, then I wake up today and see the BBC announcing that Christopher Eccleston isn’t going to be part of the Anniversary, despite meeting with Moffat twice and subsequently deciding not to be part of it.

The announcement of Billie and David coming back was enough to boost my interest for a while, but now I’ve lost interest again.

Apologies for the tone of my post, I’m just fed up with the ups and downs of this subject.

With luck this might be the start of a multi-Doctor epic! But if not, I’m glad they brought David Back.
    I miss you David!

No I agree with you JC. The more news that comes out about the DW50 special builds it up even more and more but then something ruins it. I do think the BBC could do so much more to highlight the event…unless they will announce more stuff later on. I for one would like to see a special about when the series came back in 2005 and get a ‘warts an all’ view of the work it took to bring the series back.

I may cause trouble here but I think its disgusting that Chris Eccleston won’t come back for the special, even for a cameo. He wanted to be considered in the first place and he got the lead and has as much to do with the initial success of the show as Billie, RTD etc.

It just goes to show that he was never the best ambassador for the show and the fact he wont take part shows how much of a prude he really is.

DT has always pushed the show, even after he left, as well as MS and the companions. I am a little sad though that Martha and Donna won’t be involved in the special…well Martha more only because she never got to have a xmas special episode or used to maximum use during her run as a companion.
