The 50th anniversary of Doctor Who will be marked with a special concert which will be held twice at the BBC Proms.

On 13th/14th July, special guests and monsters will invade the Royal Albert Hall for a spectacular celebration of some of the music heard in the show across the past five decades. As conducted by Ben Foster the National Orchestra of Wales will be joined on stage by the London Philharmonic Choir as they perform a selection of hits from the series plus other classical numbers such as Bizet’s Carmen Suite No. 2.

“It is a great thing to see all of Murray Gold’s brilliant score over the years come to life,” current Doctor Matt Smith commented. “We’re very pleased and proud to be part of it.”

See here for full details about this year’s Who Prom including times & tickets.

This will be the third Doctor Who Proms – the first was in 2008 and the second in 2010.

I’ve really enjoyed both Proms and it was great to hear they’ll be there again this year.

Due to health problems, I’d never be able to go and see it live, but it’s always great to watch the music we know being played.

Add to that, the stars of Doctor Who presenting and the aliens showing up, it’s just a great show. I know they stream it live on the BBC Radio, but there’s nothing like watching when it’s on TV.

I personally preferred the first one. The Cybermen, Judoon, the 10th Doctor talking to the audience via that special mini-episode, as well as the way the Daleks interacted with the Conductor and Julian Bleach returning as Davros, actually there amongst the audience.

Another thing to look forward to.
