Fans who wanted to have more from the War Doctor in The Day of the Doctor will be pleased to hear he’ll be starring in his very own novel!

Engines of War, written by George Mann, will be published this summer and looks set to be an “epic” original adventure featuring the forgotten incarnation of our beloved Time Lord as portrayed by John Hurt in the 50th anniversary special. It will be released on 31st July 2014, and you can pre-order it for a discounted price on Amazon HERE.

Not much is known about this book yet, but we can safely assume that it’ll give a further insight into the War Doctor’s involvement in the Time War. And if the cover – below – is anything to go by it will also contain lots and lot of Daleks! Will you be reading the book?

“The death of billions is as nothing to us Doctor, if it helps defeat the Daleks.”

The Great Time War has raged for centuries, ravaging the universe. Scores of human colony planets are now overrun by Dalek occupation forces. A weary, angry Doctor leads a flotilla of Battle TARDISes against the Dalek stronghold but in the midst of the carnage, the Doctor’s TARDIS crashes to a planet below: Moldox.

As the Doctor is trapped in an apocalyptic landscape, Dalek patrols roam amongst the wreckage, rounding up the remaining civilians. But why haven’t the Daleks simply killed the humans?

Searching for answers the Doctor meets ‘Cinder’, a young Dalek hunter. Their struggles to discover the Dalek plan take them from the ruins of Moldox to the halls of Gallifrey, and set in motion a chain of events that will change everything. And everyone.

    One of the most interesting books of recent years. I might actually get this one.

    Also interesting to see the Revived Series Dalek design with a cannon like the one from the Classic Series.

    Kinda lost me with “humans”. Humanoids I could deal with, but not humans. We’re not time-sensitive, thus we have nothing to do with the time war. We’re like ants observing WWII.

    @Freddy Jones

    I have to admit, I wondered about that too.

    In other discussions about the Time War, we’ve been described as a Lower Species, who couldn’t perceive the War going on around us.
