First Xmas Special info, casting news surfaces
The first tidbits of information regarding this year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special have surfaced online.
The seasonal escapade is always an anticipated affair but this year it’s even more exciting/bittersweet as it will be the first and only Doctor Who episode to have aired in 2016. Previous rumours claimed that the Doctor would be joined by a “high-profile” interim companion in the festive adventure, to tide us over until Pearl Mackie’s official introduction as Bill in Series 10 next year, however it now appears that this may not be the case after all.
According to the Radio Times, Matt Lucas – who has already been confirmed to be back in Series 10 – will be reintroduced as Nardole earlier than expected when he joins forces with the Doctor in December. He first appeared in last year’s Christmas Special, The Husbands of River Song. In addition, American actor Justin Chatwin, best known for his roles in War of the Worlds, the US remake of Shameless and American Gothic, will reportedly be starring in the episode as a “superhero character”. Whatever that means…
Steven Moffat has teased that this year’s Christmas Special has “a lot of heart and a lot of brain, too”, while Mark Gatiss has admitted that the script made him cry. Well, it wouldn’t be Doctor Who if it wasn’t ripping your heart into little pieces on Christmas Day, would it?
What do you make of these latest developments, and what are your hopes for the episode?
