In a shocking twist, the BBC has confirmed that John Simm will be reprising his role as the Master in Series 10 of Doctor Who.

The actor first appeared as the renegade Time Lord in Series 3, before returning for David Tennant’s final adventure. His character has since made a comeback under the guise of Michelle Gomez, but this time it will be double the trouble as the past and present collide when Missy – who is also back in Series 10 – comes face to face with her predecessor to battle the Doctor, Bill and Nardole. Expect fireworks. And grenades.

“I can confirm that it’s true,” John Simm commented. “Thanks to the power of time travel, I am back, and I can’t wait for you all to see what the Master gets up to in the next series.”

Outgoing showrunner Steven Moffat added: “You’ll have to wait a little bit longer to find out what the Master is up to. It’s been a pleasure to have John Simm and Michelle Gomez face to face in the same role, as it’s not every day that you get to see a solo personality clash!”

This is such wonderful unexpected news! Me, my Dad and friends were so excited to hear this!
John Simms is so amazing in the role of the Master and my favorite villain as a kid.

It’s about time we have two Masters teaming up, although Big Finish productions beat them to it on Audio! Should be great seeing Missy and “Saxton” working together, I bet their scenes will be funny yet sinister at the same time.
Maybe this means we’l finally learn how the Master survived his encounter with Rassilon and regenerated into Missy which is good because i’m having a hard time totally accepting Missy as the Master.

In a way it’s kind of sad it’s already been revealed. It would have been one hell of a surprise if they kept it secret like they did with Davros and the 8th Doctor during the 50th. But this is wonderfull news and now have one more hell of a reason to watch Season 10!

Wow! What is going on with series 10? The Master of old along side the Cybermen of old along side the Movellans of old!! Interesting stuff indeed. I am getting more and more excited by the premise of this coming series the closer it gets (just over a week from now!) Happy times and places? I certainly hope so :)

Whilst I know that not everyone liked John Simm as The Master, I can’t tell you how excited I was when I heard this news yesterday.

Just as the 10th Doctor is my Doctor, John Simm is The Master to me and I genuinely thought that when The Mistress turned up, that was the last I’d see of him. The news that he’d be returning, then, came as a very welcome surprise. For the first time in quite some time, I’m actually looking forward to the new series now.

I hope we’ll get to hear/see how The Master became The Mistress. If it wasn’t for the evidence we’ve seen so far, it’d be interesting if it turned out The Mistress wasn’t actually The Master, but instead was some kind of copycat fanatic. Even though that won’t be the case, it’s great that we’re going to have a multi-Master episode and I’m really looking forward to seeing how he gets on (or doesn’t) with himself/herself, how they work together and how The 12th Doctor will react to seeing his 10th incarnation’s nemesis again.

Depending on where in time John Simm’s Master comes from, it’ll also be interesting to see whether the drums in his head will have stopped too, because The Mistress hasn’t mentioned them at all.

So yeah, very excited about this news. It’s enlivened the series for me again. Our Lord and Master will walk among us again. It just makes you wonder what else Series 10 will have in store for us.
