Just a reminder to our US readers that last year’s Christmas Special, The Return of Doctor Mysterio, lands on DVD and Blu-ray in America this week.

It will be available on both formats from Tuesday 21st February, with a SRP of $19.98 for the DVD and $24.98 for the Blu-ray. Like the UK version, released on 23rd January, its bonus features include ‘A New Kind of Superhero’ featurette and the episode’s accompanying Doctor Who Extra.

The final rating for last year’s Christmas Special, The Return of Doctor Mysterio, has been revealed.

The festive episode was watched by an official audience of 7.83 million viewers in the UK, giving the show its highest audience since 2014, when Last Christmas had 8.24 million.

Although it’s a leap from the overnight, Doctor Mysterio has become the second least watched Doctor Who Christmas Special, however it was the 8th biggest show of the week.

The seasonal adventure will be released on DVD & Blu-ray on 23rd January 2017.

An unofficial audience of 5.68 million viewers tuned in for The Return of Doctor Mysterio on BBC One last night, according to the initial overnight ratings.

The Doctor’s grand comeback had a 27.1% of the total television audience, making the festive episode the 7th most watched programme of Christmas Day on British TV.

The final, consolidated figure – which will add those who watch it within the first week of its transmission – will be released in 7 days.

With brain-swapping aliens poised to attack, the Doctor and Nardole link up with an investigative reporter and a mysterious figure known only as The Ghost. Can the Doctor save Manhattan? And what will be revealed when we see behind the mask?

‘Tis the season to be jolly and, after his extended hiatus, the Twelfth Doctor returned to our screens tonight to add an extra dose of sparkle to our festivities. It was about time!

It’s hard to believe that it’s been one whole year since we last saw our beloved Time Lord, but thankfully he made up for his absence with an epic adventure which took him to New York City, where a deadly alien threat was lurking in the shadows.. So, what else is new?

Well, it’s not every day that the Doctor teams up with a superhero, and investigate reporter Lucy Fletcher was also on hand to help solve the mystery of the brain-swapping aliens who were poised to attack. It wasn’t just new faces in town, either, as Matt Lucas burst back on to our screens as Nardole and we got our first glimpse of Pearl Mackie in action as Bill Potts in Series 10… but more on that next year! The BBC have released their seasonal showreel previewing the highlights of their Christmas televisual highlights, which of course includes the long awaited comeback of Doctor Who in The Return of Doctor Mysterio!

Everybody’s favourite Time Lord will be back where he belongs on BBC One on Christmas Day at 5:45pm and the trailer features a handful of new clips from the episode which will see our hero joining forces with an investigative journalist to save New York from an alien threat. ‘Tis almost the season, folks, and we cannot wait!

New Zealand is the latest country to add a big screen outing of this year’s anticipated Doctor Who Christmas Special.

As previously announced, The Return of Doctor Mysterio will be shown in select cinemas in the US, Canada and Australia, with New Zealand now confirmed to be joining the festivities for one night only on Boxing Day. Fans can find their nearest participating cinema here. As with all of the events, the episode will be followed by a behind-the-scenes featurette, A New Kind of Superhero, as well as the special’s accompanying Doctor Who Extra.

The Return of Doctor Mysterio will land on BBC One on Christmas Day at 5:45pm.

You can now pre-order this year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special on DVD and Blu-ray, because Whovians are nothing if not unashamedly organised.

Although The Return of Doctor Mysterio doesn’t actually air until Christmas Day, you can already reserve your own copy of it in time for its release – on both formats – on 23rd January 2017. There has been no official artwork or special features confirmed yet but it’s still early days, seeing as we’ve actually got to watch the episode first. Still, there’s no harm in being prepared. It’s what the Doctor would do. Probably.
