billie-reflects-on-10-years-since-who-exit

Billie Piper has been reflecting on her tenure in the TARDIS during a recent interview with Digital Spy.

It has been almost 10 years since the actress bowed out as Rose Tyler at the end of the Series 2 finale, Doomsday, but she revealed that the show’s presence in her life is still as strong as it was a decade ago. She said: “I meet fans at conventions and a lot of them are like, ‘I would watch Doctor Who as a baby with my Mum and Dad’ and I’m thinking, ‘Jeez! I don’t need to hear that!’. Some of them are named after Rose and are now 10 years old. It’s insane.”

She has made multiple returns to the series since her original exit, firstly in the Series 4 finale and then once again in 2010 to bid David Tennant’s Doctor farewell in The End of Time, Part Two. Most recently, she reprised the role for the 50th anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor, back in 2013. “It’s nice,” she affirmed. “It’s great that Rose lives on.”

Can you believe that it’s nearly been 10 years since Doomsday?! Time certainly does fly…

11-years-since-rose

Today – 26th March – is an important day in the Whovian calendar because it marks the anniversary of the show’s comeback back in 2005.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been over a decade since Chris Eccleston first burst on to the airwaves as the Ninth Doctor, but time really does fly when you’re having fun because, as of today, it’s officially been 11 whole years since the premiere of his debut adventure, Rose. The episode also introduced Billie Piper as his companion to form one of the most beloved on screen partnerships in TV history. Now, run for your life!

4015 days later, the world’s longest running sci-fi franchise is still as strong as ever. With filming on its tenth revived series due to start in May, let us take this moment to reflect on how it all began (well, in the 21st century, at least…) as we go back to the start (again, not the real start!) to remember how an ordinary teenage girl’s life was changed forever. With killer shop window dummies. And guess what? We wouldn’t have missed it for the world…

One of Doctor Who’s most popular on screen partnerships reigned supreme in their respective categories at the WhatsOnStage theatre awards earlier tonight.

Tenth Doctor actor David Tennant was named Best Actor for his leading role in the RSC production of Richard II while Billie Piper, who starred as his companion Rose Tyler, was awarded the title of Best Actress for her performance as a tabloid news editor in Great Britain at the National Theatre. Billie was unable to attend the ceremony but has posted a message on her official website to thank everyone who voted.

David and Billie were last seen in Doctor Who together in The Day of the Doctor in 2013.

Huge congratulations to David Tennant who was the recipient of a surprise Special Recognition award at tonight’s National Television Awards!

The actor received the prestigious accolade in honour of his contributions to stage and screen and his speech was preceded by a celebratory montage during which familiar faces – including Billie Piper, Russell T Davies and Catherine Tate – paid tribute to their friend and colleague. One of David’s most iconic roles, of course, was as the Tenth Doctor in Doctor Who which he originally played from 2005 to 2010.

It turned out to be the only cause for celebration for Doctor Who at the ceremony however. The show itself lost out in the only category in which it was nominated as Downton Abbey was unveiled as the nation’s Best Drama. Commiserations to the cast and crew in Cardiff.

On a brighter note, Doctor Who has been shortlisted in the category every year since its revival back in 2005, out of which it’s won a grand total of 6 times, so it’s not all bad news!

billie-says-her-doctors-were-really-good

Billie Piper has described Peter Capaldi as the “perfect” Doctor in a recent interview with Radio Times.

The actress, who is best known for her role as companion Rose Tyler, revealed that it “would have been brilliant” if her character had been given the opportunity to travel with the Time Lord’s current incarnation. “But I’m also happy with my lot,” she added. “I’m happy with having David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston. I mean, they were both really good.”

Billie stepped down as a series regular in Doomsday in 2006.

She has since made various returns to the series, most recently for the 50th anniversary.

billie-predicts-peter-will-be-amazing-as-the-doctor

Billie Piper has said she’s got high hopes for Peter Capaldi’s portrayal of the Doctor.

Speaking to Flicks and the City at the UK premiere of Penny Dreadful, a new psychological thriller in which she plays the role of Irish immigrant Brona Croft, the Rose Tyler actress described the actor as “a really wise choice” for the part. “I don’t know what he’s like as a person, but he’ll be amazing,” she predicted. “He is so great with comedy but he also has this terrifying and wild nature in his peformances.”

Billie bowed out as the Doctor’s ‘full time’ companion in Doomsday but has made several returns to the series since, most recently in the 50th anniversary special The Day of the Doctor last year. In another new interview with the Guardian, she briefly touches on her original decision to leave the show in 2006. “It was just very hard to have a life and also take care of my family because I was always filming in Cardiff,” she explained. “It was almost impossible. Plus it was a totally different level of fame, which I really don’t miss.”

Penny Dreadful premieres in the UK on Sky Atlantic (Channel 108) on 20th May at 9pm.
