The Telegraph has a new interview with David Tennant and Catherine Tate about their involvement in Much Ado About Nothing, which opens in the West End on 16th May.
During the Q&A, they discuss the similarities between their latest partnership, Benedick and Beatrice, and the Doctor and Donna in Doctor Who. “Benedick and Beatrice are similar to the Doctor and Donna in some ways – there’s a lot of sparring,” Catherine explains. “But this is a romantic relationship, which was never the case in Doctor Who.”
She continues: “Of course, there is a natural desire to see that energy between us being recreated. But I trust people have more sense than to assume it will be the same.”
David adds: “It would be disingenuous to suggest that the fact this is happening hasn’t got something to do with the power of Doctor Who, and that is something I’m thankful for. For me, the thinking was “I’d like to do a play; I’d like to do Much Ado About Nothing; and it just so happens that the perfect Beatrice in my head is Catherine”.”
David Tennant is the latest cast member to pay tribute to Elisabeth Sladen, describing her as “extraordinary”.
Elisabeth, loved for her portrayal of Sarah Jane in Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures, sadly passed away yesterday morning. The Tenth Doctor actor commented: “I just can’t believe that Lis is gone. She seemed invincible. The same woman who enchanted my childhood, enchanted my time on Doctor Who and enchanted generations who have fallen in love with her – just like I did.”
He said: “I feel very honoured to have shared a TARDIS with Sarah Jane Smith, and I feel very lucky to have shared some time with Lis Sladen. She was extraordinary.”

Tom Baker has also updated his official website with his own tribute to the actress.
Sarah Jane dead? No, impossible! Impossible. Only last week I agreed to do six new audio adventures with her for Big Finish Productions.
She can’t be dead. But she is: she died yesterday morning. Cancer. I had no idea she was ill; she was so private, never wanted any fuss, and now, gone. A terrible blow to her friends and a shattering blow for all those fans of the programme whose lives were touched every Saturday evening by her lovely heroic character.

Meanwhile, Colin Baker has tweeted: “Very sad to hear of the death of Lis Sladen. Great sympathy for her husband and daughter. She was too young to be lost to them”.
