It has been revealed that David Tennant and Catherine Tate will be appearing alongside each other in a forthcoming production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing!

The Tenth Doctor actor will be portraying Benedick in the classic comedy, while the Donna Noble actress will be taking on the role of his reluctant lover, Beatrice. It will be the first time the two have peformed on stage together, and it will be opening at the Wyndham’s Theatre in London’s West End on May 16th 2011.

Speaking about the play on BBC Breakfast, David explained: “Theatre is where we both started really, and it still for me feels like my proper job a little bit, even though I’ve done things elsewhere. To get the chance to do it with your mate and do a play you’ve always wanted to do, it just felt like an opportunity that was too good to miss.”

Catherine, meanwhile, admitted: “I’d always wanted to do it, but I thought it was too close to the Doctor Who time for us to do it. I was thinking of doing it ages ago, because David’s absolutely my ideal Benedick, so we just rang in the summer and asked.”

We’d like to wish both David and Catherine the very best of luck with the production!

david-tennant-has-loved-every-second-of-new-series

A familiar face is on the cover of this week’s Radio Times, and the same familiar face is also interviewed inside the issue about his new drama, Single Father.

If you haven’t guessed already, that familiar face is David Tennant, who has told the magazine that he still stands by his decision to step down from his role as the Tenth Doctor as it “felt right to pass the baton on and for it to continue to thrive”, noting that he “loved doing it so much” and “wouldn’t have missed” the opportunity for anything.

Regarding Matt Smith’s first series, Tennant said: “I’m very nervous to say anything because anything I say is turned into some soundbite and used by the Daily Mail.”

He continued: “Genuinely, I think it’s been brilliant. I’ve loved every second of it. It’s a thrill for me to be watching it as a viewer again. I knew Matt was going to be fantastic and he is. He’s a great choice and he’s knocked it out of the park.”

You can read Daivd’s full interview in the latest issue of Radio Times, out now for £1.10.

The four-part Single Father begins on Sunday 10th October at 9:00PM on BBC One.
