Karen Gillan has been speaking to the Los Angeles Times about all things Doctor Who!

At the beginning of the interview, she reflects on this year’s series, describing it as “the best so far”… “I think the stakes were upped this time round,” she said. “Everything got more dangerous, more funny and darker at the same time. There is kind of light and shade to it, so it is not all serious.” About her relationships with Rory and River, she joked: “How do you even put that on paper as a family tree?”

She goes on to discuss her future career aspirations, as she reveals: “I want to do more theatre. I have a real passion for it. I want to do it as much as screen stuff, so that’d be really amazing. Maybe something on Broadway. I’d love to do that. Not a musical, like a play on Broadway. I genuinely just want to do good work. I’m interested in character.”

Earlier this month it was confirmed that she will be leaving Doctor Who during Series 7.

It has been confirmed that Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill will be leaving Doctor Who during the next series.

The actors will be stepping down from their respective roles – Amy Pond and Rory Williams – in what showrunner Steven Moffat described as “a heartbreaking end” at the screening of the Christmas Special earlier tonight.

“The final days of the Ponds are coming,” he said. “I’m not telling you when or how.”

Matt Smith added: “We had the most incredible journey. We took over the show and we’ve really had to hold hands and help each other through. It’s very disappointing, but one has to remember that this show is about making changes and regeneration.”

As always, the Doctor will be meeting “a new friend” following their departure, and it is thought that the role of his new companion is still to be cast. Who would you like to see? The official site’s Twitter has said that they’ll be bringing us “more details” tomorrow.

Are you ready to say goodbye to Amy and Rory?

Karen Gillan popped in to have a chat to Graham Norton on his Radio 2 show this morning, and, during the interview, she discussed what the future holds for Amy Pond.

“I don’t really know what’s going on,” she admitted. “I think that’s all up in the air at the moment. I know I’m going to be coming back, but I’m not really sure when. But I know that the time will come where Amy and Rory have to leave. It’s inevitable and sad, but that’s the nature of the show, and I’ll welcome the new companion with open arms.”

She added: “I think it’s important to do other things and establish myself in other ways.”

Karen Gillan has revealed that she feels “completely terrified” about her forthcoming theatre debut.

This month the actress will take to the stage in the West End in Inadmissible Evidence at the Donmar Warehouse, and recently told the Telegraph that her Doctor Who co-stars Matt Smith and Arthur Darvill were “so pleased” when she won the role. “I’m completely terrified, but that makes it exciting,” she said. “When Matt and Arthur heard, they were like, grab this with both hands. So I’m going to!”
