Peter Capaldi is interviewed in today’s Sunday Times in which he confirms that this year’s Christmas Special – AKA, his final episode as the Doctor – will be filmed in July.

The actor will be stepping down from the iconic role after three series and revealed that he’ll “quite possibly” burst into tears when the time comes to vacate the TARDIS this summer. “I’ve cried already – no, not really,” he said. “But they’re such a nice group of people, so I’ll miss them terribly. And, you know, it’s the end of something. I’ve never done anything for this long before.”

He added: “It is connected to my childhood, plus it brings this warm response from people and children, fans of all different stripes. It’s a magical thing. But then suddenly, it’s over…”

But not quite yet! Peter returns as the Doctor for his final full series on Saturday 15th April.

toby-whithouse-backs-damien-molony-as-13th-doctor

Toby Whithouse has revealed his ideal candidate for the 13th Doctor in a new interview with Digital Spy.

The writer, who recently confirmed that he’s penned the final instalment of an upcoming Series 10 three-parter, suggested that Being Human actor Damien Molony would be “terrific” as Peter Capaldi’s successor in the iconic role. “He’s a fantastic actor,” he said. “He would be my choice, or Chiwetel Ejiofor.”

He added that while it will be “a real shame” to see Peter go, he fully understands his decision to vacate the TARDIS.

He explained: “He’s been absolutely incredible as the Doctor, and he’s just the loveliest guy you’ll ever meet. He came on to the show to work with Steven Moffat, so I get it. But he’s an amazing ambassador. It’s something that’s been so important to him his whole life, so he understands the importance of the show and appreciates how treasured and loved it is.”

We couldn’t have put it better ourselves! Are you familiar with Damien Moloney’s work? Do you agree that he would make a terrific Time Lord? Share your thoughts in the comments…

comic-relief-auction-for-breakfast-with-seven-doctors

Red Nose Day is back this month and so is their auction, which is offering a once in a lifetime opportunity for Doctor Who fans.

Seriously, it’s the stuff that Whovian dreams are made of.

In the not too distant future, seven Doctors – Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi – will be sitting down for a full English breakfast at The Wolseley in London, and there are four unreserved seats up for grabs…

Two of them will be claimed by the highest bidders, while the other two will be picked at random from a prize draw of ticket holders, for those of us who don’t have a spare £10,000 (and then some!) lying around. A single ticket can be purchased now for £5, with multiple packages on offer to increase your odds. All of the money will go towards Comic Relief and its associated charities to help people who are living difficult lives across the UK and Africa.

Good luck to those who will be bidding, and may the odds be forever in your favour if you’ll be entering the raffle. Red Nose Day is on Friday 24th March. Find out more about it, here.

john-discusses-jack-meeting-the-twelfth-doctor

John Barrowman recently caught up with the Doctor Who Fan Show to talk about his return as Captain Jack in a new Big Finish audio range.

The conversation inevitably turned to Doctor Who, as the actor admitted that he’d love to see how his on screen alter ego would react to the Twelfth Doctor. “I’d like to see Peter’s Doctor meet Jack,” he said. “The Doctor is a little bit older now, so it would be perfect. Plus, Jack has matured a little bit. Would that spark still be there? Would Jack still feel the same way about him?”

Speculation surrounding Jack’s return to Doctor Who is always ongoing, as are rumours regarding Torchwood’s televisual comeback. Last year, he revealed that he was in talks to end its prolonged hiatus, however plans have yet to develop any further. He explained: “I travel around the world and see how much Torchwood is still loved and how much people want it back. I’m really trying to push for it, but Big Finish is a great way to keep it alive.”

new-companion-pearl-reacts-to-peters-departure

Pearl Mackie has responded to the recent news that her co-star Peter Capaldi will be stepping down as the Twelfth Doctor after one more series.

The actor will be bidding farewell to the TARDIS in this year’s Christmas Special after appearing alongside new companion Bill in Series 10.

The actress who plays her is featured as one of InStyle UK’s Rising Stars of 2017 and told them that she will be “so sad” to see him go.

“But I’m also so happy that I got to work with him,” she said. “He’s so generous actor and I am new to camera acting, so he’ll always check if I’m ok. He is very open to my opinions.”

She also revealed where she was when she found out that she’d won the part of the Time Lord’s coveted sidekick, as she reminisced: “I was at home with my housemate. The whole process was mad. It was like being in M15! Then my agent called me to tell me I got it and there was lots of tears. I had to call her back after, to check that it had actually happened!”

billie-says-its-probably-time-for-a-female-doctor

Billie Piper has joined the campaign for a female Doctor by saying that casting a woman in the iconic role would be a “timely” move by the BBC.

Following the announcement that Peter Capaldi will be handing over the keys to the TARDIS this Christmas, the Rose Tyler actress was asked whether or not she would ever consider taking on the momentous mantle of the Time Lord. “I don’t know,” she told BBC News. “It’s a lot of work. But I think it would be great to have a female Doctor, especially given the spirit of the world at the moment.”

She added: “I’ve always said that I support the show’s original format, but then I honestly don’t know where they can take it from here. It would be a snub at this point, I think.”

Do you agree with Billie? Should the next Doctor be a woman? Join the discussion below…

breaking-news-peter-capaldi-to-leave-doctor-who-in-2017-christmas-special

It has been confirmed that Peter Capaldi will be leaving Doctor Who at the end of the year.

The announcement was made by the man himself during an appearance on Jo Whiley’s Radio 2 show earlier tonight (Monday), before an accompanying press release affirming the details of his exit was released online. After Series 10 airs this spring, the Time Lord will regenerate into the Thirteenth Doctor in this year’s Christmas Special, which will also be the last episode to be written by outgoing showrunner Steven Moffat.

“One of the greatest privileges of being Doctor Who is to see the world at its best,” Peter said. “From our brilliant crew and creative team working for the best broadcaster on the planet, to the viewers and fans whose endless creativity and generosity points to a brighter future ahead. I cannot thank everyone enough. It has been truly cosmic.”

As Steven also prepares to bid farewell to the “best job” he’ll ever have, he reassured fans by teasing that the Twelfth Doctor’s “greatest adventures are yet to come”, adding that, “Capaldi’s not done with you yet!” He continued: “Knowing that I’m leaving in the company of the best, kindest and cleverest of men makes the saddest of endings a little bit sweeter.”

So, there you have it! After a frenzy of speculation, the Twelfth Doctor’s time is running out. Will you be sad to see Peter go, or has his Doctor run his cause? And who should be his successor? Share your initial reactions to this breaking news in the comments below…
