David Tennant took a break from filming his last episode today to do some promotion for this Saturday’s Easter special, Planet of the Dead.
He appeared on The Christian O’Connell Breakfast Show (listen again), The Jo Whiley Show (listen again - about 2 hours, 10 minutes into the interview), and Simon Mayo’s show (listen again - about an hour in).
Although nothing new was mentioned, David did confirm that the second special will transmit in Autumn and the last two on at Christmas and in the New Year. He also mentioned that he’s got something else to film in Cardiff after filming wraps on his final episodes on May 22nd, sparking speculation that the Tenth Doctor will be making a cameo appearance in Series 3 of The Sarah Jane Adventures.
The official Doctor Who website has been updated with a brand new homepage for this year’s Easter adventure, Planet of the Dead.
The episode guide for the special has also been launched. Much more content will be added after it’s transmitted, but for now there’s a few wallpapers and a new Double Decker game to keep us entertained until Saturday night!
Not long now!
David Tennant is interviewed in this week’s edition of Radio Times, which also boasts a stunning and exclusive Planet of the Dead cover.
While the interview itself is to promote this year’s Easter special (just 2 days to go, folks!), David also briefly mentions the Tenth Doctor’s upcoming regeneration.
“You can sense the bell tolling for the Tenth Doctor,” he told the magazine. “Something happens in (Special #2) that fundamentally alters who the Doctor is and where he is, which is the sort of thing you can only do when you know that you’re coming to an end. That’s very exciting, and quite sad.”
He added: “The end is nigh. You can sense the Grim Reaper knocking on the door. But how many times?”
You can read the full Planet of the Dead article, which also features some new pictures, as well as exclusive interviews with director James Strong and Michelle Ryan, in this week’s Radio Times, out now, priced £1.10.
It has been confirmed by the BBC that Planet of the Dead will be shown not once, not twice, but THREE times over the Easter weekend!
The special will have its long-awaited debut on BBC One and BBC HD on Saturday 11th April at 6:45PM, and it’ll then be repeated, with a red button commentary from David Tennant, Julie Gardner and James Strong, on BBC Three on Easter Sunday at 7PM. It’ll transmit for a third time, again on BBC One and BBC HD, at 5PM on Easter Monday.
Meanwhile, the episode’s edition of Doctor Who Confidential, Desert Storm, will air on BBC Three at 8:30PM on Saturday 11th April, and will be repeated on the channel at 4:10AM and 8PM the next day.
Both programmes will also be available to watch again on the BBC’s iPlayer service, so you have no reason to miss it! Not that you would, of course…
The Planet of the Dead edition of Doctor Who Confidential will transmit on BBC Three from 8:30PM – 9:30PM on Saturday 11th April 2009.
The episode is called Desert Storm and follows the cast and crew as they shoot scenes for the episode out in Dubai, showing how they got a double decker bus out into the desert, and how they overcame filming in the horrendous weather conditions…
While episodes of the behind-the-scenes programme usually follow on directly from the broadcast of the episode on BBC One, it’s thought that bosses have decided to put it on later to avoid clash with Primeval on ITV1.
As we’ve come to expect, there’ll be lots of media interest in Doctor Who over the coming week, as the nation prepares for this year’s anticipated Easter special, Planet of the Dead!
The cast will be out and about promoting the episode, and below you’ll find a schedule we’ve put together of all of the appearances confirmed so far to help you keep up to date with who’s where and when!

Doctor Who fan and ex-Newsround presenter Lizo Mzimba has confirmed on his Twitter page that, unfortunately, there will be no press launch for this year’s Easter special, Planet of the Dead.
The launch, previously scheduled to take place this week, has been cancelled because the episode, which will hit our screens on Easter Saturday, still isn’t finished.
This isn’t the first time an episode of the programme has had a close finish in post-production. Last year’s series finale, Journey’s End, was locked off just hours before its broadcast on BBC One.
The fact there’s no press launch will result in heightened media promotion from the cast, and there’s already been several interviews confirmed. We’ll be posting a full round-up of all of the confirmed appearances soon!
Michelle Ryan has ruled out the possibilty of coming back to Doctor Who in the role of the Time Lord’s full-time companion.
The actress, who appears in this year’s Easter special, Planet of the Dead, as Lady Christina, has told fans that they’ll be “wasting their time” if they place bets on her returning to the show in the future.
“I see Christina as someone who is around for this one-time adventure,” she said. “Doctor Who is amazing but I think people presume, “Why wouldn’t I want to do it as a regular thing?” I’m a commitment-phobe.”
Planet of the Dead will transmit on BBC One and BBC HD on Saturday 11th April at 6:45PM.
