Series 5 of Doctor Who continued on France 4 over the weekend, with an average audience of 374,000 (1.7%) tuning in for both parts of Le labyrinthe des Anges and Les Vampires de Venise.
While the figure is down from last weekend’s screening of the first 3 episodes, the Doctor and Amy are still doing well, and we hope French fans enjoy the second half of the series! It continues next Saturday with Le Seigneur des Rêves and La révolte des intra-terrestres.
Meanwhile, channel NRJ12 showed a repeat of Torchwood: Children of Earth (Les enfants de la Terre) in its entirety on Saturday, watched by 219,000 people (1%).

Series 5 of Doctor Who made its debut in France last night, with an average audience of 453,000 (2%) tuning in for Matt Smith’s first 3 episodes in role as the Eleventh Doctor!
Meanwhile, Beans on Toast have let us know about their exclusive interview with Belgian voice artist David Manet, who dubbed for both the Ninth and Tenth Doctors in France. “What I remember is the pleasure of working on Doctor Who,” he explains, ”and the surprises that came in the scripts and the quality of this show.”
He admits: “At times, it was exhausting – really – and sometimes it was frustrating because we couldn’t quite match the original performance. Because Doctor Who is very British, in the way it is made, its spirit, language and energy. So, as a voice actor, you do get frustrated when you think “this is not quite as good as it could be”. In a dub, there’s bound to be a big part of betrayal of the original.”
Thank you to Aurélie for the news. We hope French fans enjoy the rest of the series!
As we previously reported, Series 5 of Doctor Who begins airing on France 4 this weekend and, ahead of its debut, the channel has started screening two new adverts to welcome the arrival of the Eleventh Doctor!
The first is a dubbed promo featuring a selection of clips from the first 3 episodes, The Eleventh Hour, The Beast Below and Victory of the Daleks, but it’s the second advert that particularly stands out – for obvious reasons! You’ll see just why by watching below…
Thanks to Aurélie D for the news! Le Prisonnier zéro will air on 12th February at 8.35pm.
French network France 4 have confirmed that they’ll begin airing the fifth series of Doctor Who this month!
Matt Smith’s debut series as the Eleventh Doctor, alongside Karen Gillan as his companion, Amy Pond, will begin with The Eleventh Hour – Le Prisonnier zéro – on 12th February at 8:35pm.
In the story, the Doctor has just regenerated and has 20 minutes to save the entire world – no pressure, then!
Forbidden Planet have kindly sent us details of the latest Doctor Who products which you can now pre-order.
First up is an action figure of the Underhenge Stone Dalek seen in Series 5 finale, The Big Bang, which has a pre-order price of £10.99. Elsewhere, there are two classic series t-shirts featuring the designs of the costumes as worn by the Fourth and Fifth Doctors, the latter with celery included! There’s also a TARDIS load of other merchandise making its way to shelves over the coming months.
In light of its return in A Christmas Carol, Matt Smith has spoken in favour of Amy Pond’s mini-skirts, insisting that there’s “nothing exploitative or demeaning” about them.
“I know those short skirts caused a furore but I say bring them on,” the Eleventh Doctor actor told Now Magazine. “I see nothing wrong with celebrating women and their sexiness.” Back in the spring, Karen Gillan also responsed to the controversy, explaining that wearing mini-skirts helps to stay true to Amy’s personality.
The Eleventh Hour has been named as 2010’s most requested programme on the BBC’s iPlayer!
Matt Smith’s acclaimed debut episode, which first aired on April 3rd, has been watched 2,241,000 times on the service. Meanwhile, David Tennant’s regeneration in The End of Time, Part Two has also made the Top 20, coming 9th with 1,015,000 requests. In 2nd place is an episode of Top Gear (1,680,000 requests), and the first episode of Sherlock, A Study in Pink is 3rd with 1,403,000 views.
