The latest Christmas Special, The Snowmen, delivered yet another ratings success for BBC America.

As Entertainment Weekly reports the festive episode was seen by 1.4 million on Christmas Day, once again a brilliant figure for the network. Back in September, the US debut of Asylum of the Daleks set a new record for the channel.

“It feels exactly right to be ending the year on a ratings high with Doctor Who,” said BBC general manager Perry Simon.

He added: “The show has delivered for us this year on every level – cinematic scale plus superb acting and a growing band of dedicated fans. We can’t wait to see more in 2013.”

In the UK, the episode achieved an official, consolidated viewing figure of 9.87 million.

jenna-admits-being-in-series-is-still-becoming-real

Jenna-Louise Coleman has admitted that she’s still adjusting to the fact that she’s now playing the Doctor’s companion.

Chatting to Entertainment Weekly, her first US interview, the actress explained she is “still kind of digesting” that she was cast in such an iconic series like Doctor Who. She said: “It is everywhere. I look out my window in Cardiff and I can see the Doctor Who Experience and it is so huge. I came out to LA not long after I got the part – so many people out there were talking about it too.”

She added that the show is so unique due to its “generational and universal” appeal. “My friend’s little brother who’s only 7 is a massive fan and my grandma is the most excited person about it in the world as well,” she revealed. “So it crosses so many generations.”

She also discussed her character, Clara, saying she will be “totally different” than all the companions before her, teasing a “soft mystery” in relation to her suprise appearance as Oswin in Asylum of the Daleks. “Because of the way it all started with Oswin, it is really difficult to say much,” she explained. “We were all really pleased and proud that it didn’t leak. It’s basically Steven’s mad genius, a genius plan. It’s what he’s beautiful at.”

Clara’s first episode The Snowmen will debut on BBC One on Christmas Day. “There’s some absolutely stunning, beautiful, magical moments,” she said. “It is icy and snowy.”

The Doctor and the Ponds puzzle an unlikely invasion of Earth, as millions of sinister black cubes arrive overnight. But what are they, what’s inside them and most importantly, who sent them?

Tonight may have been Episode 4 of Series 7 but it was all about The Power of Three.

So far this month we’ve seen Daleks, dinosaurs and a relentless cyborg (standard!) but in this week’s episode, all the tension was notched up to a whole different level as planet Earth faced the Year of the Slow Invasion. The invasion might have been slow but the pace of the story certainly wasn’t, bringing with it an array of shocks and surprises…

And it would’ve felt like Christmas had arrived early for fans of Amy and Rory, who took center stage in Chris Chibnall’s episode. In the penultimate part of the Ponds’ story, the TARDIS trio did what they do best when they worked together to learn the culprit behind the mysterious cube invasion. But as the truth began to unravel before their eyes, so did the sudden realisation that all good things must come to an end eventually – or do they?

What did you think of The Power of Three? Its writer described it as “really unusual”, but was this a positive or a negative aspect of the story? Did you enjoy watching events unfold from Amy and Rory’s point of view? Rate and review the latest episode right now!

Next week it’s the big one: look ahead to the Ponds exit in The Angels Take Manhattan!

series-7-premiere-breaks-records-around-the-world

Last weekend’s debut of Asylum of the Daleks has only gone and broken records around the world!

As the BBC reports the opening episode wasn’t just a huge hit in the UK (where it was seen by an overnight audience of 6.38million), as it’s managed to score an all time high for BBC America. With an audience of 1.55 million, the episode has become the channel’s most watched non-sports telecast ever, the coveted title previously held by last year’s series premiere, The Impossible Astronaut.

Meanwhile the episode delivered a strong 620,000 viewers for SPACE in Canada, where it was that night’s most watched show in its timeslot. Although fans in Australia have to wait until this weekend for the Doctor’s televisual return, the episode was released on iView following its UK transmission, attracting a record-breaking 75,000 overnight views.

Series 7 continues tomorrow at 7:35pm on BBC One in Dinosaurs on a Spaceship
