new-experience-to-be-walk-through-adventure

Some exciting new details regarding next year’s Doctor Who Experience have emerged today!

We first told you about it last month, however its official website has been updated with a press release which confirms just what the ‘unmissable’ new experience is to entail. Fans will be faced with a ‘fully contained’ and ‘interactive’ challenge to reunite the Doctor with his TARDIS, encountering an array of the most terrifying monsters and aliens from the series along the way.

Throughout the adventure, visitors will be right at the very heart of the action, exploring a recreation of the TARDIS interior with special effects and specially-recorded scenes featuring the Eleventh Doctor, before it reaches its ‘breathtaking 3D finale’. After that, visitors will move into a brand new exhibition area sporting props and costumes from throughout the show’s history, including items never displayed in public before!

“The Doctor Who Experience is a fans dream come true – a fully interactive adventure that will allow viewers of the show to get as close as possible to some of the scariest monsters from the series,” showrunner Steven Moffat explained. “This is the day the Doctor teaches you how to fly the TARDIS through time and space, and takes you into battle with all his deadliest enemies in a brand new adventure. So steady your nerves and bring your own sofa – the Doctor needs you!”

The Experience will open at London’s Olympia Two venue on 20th February 2011, and tickets will go on sale through the official website from 18th November 2010. Wales Online reports that the Experience will be moved permanently to Cardiff in 2012.

Matt Smith added: ‘The whole concept of the Doctor Who Experience, which will give fans a chance to star in their very own Doctor Who adventure, is massively exciting! I hope as many people as possible enjoy boarding the TARDIS next year to embark upon an exhilarating and sometimes terrifying adventure through time and space.”

The Experience is to be developed by Sarner, with its Creative Director, Michael Bennett, promising that the project will take exhibitions to ‘another level’.

more-adventure-games-confirmed-for-next-year

Today it has been annnounced that the BBC will be bringing us more Doctor Who Adventure Games next year!

As MCV reports, Sumo Digital will be developing another batch of the interactive episodes for release throughout 2011, once again starring Matt Smith and Karen Gillan as the Doctor and Amy Pond! The article also suggests that the first 3 games – City of the Daleks, Blood of the Cybermen and TARDIS – have so far been downloaded over 1.6million times.

Head of BBC multiplatform, Simon Nelson, said: “It’s not just about the numbers; the feedback we’ve had has been overwhelmingly positive. Our audience has been introduced to a new form of drama – and, for many, these have been the first computer games they have downloaded. We’ve set new standards in audience participation – and we think we’ve really helped push the concept of families actively playing together. I can’t wait to see what the team does next.”

What do you think about the news? Are you happy there are more games on the way?

The first 3 games can be downloaded now from the official website, and via Direct2Drive for international fans. The fourth game is to be released later in the year.

bbc-confirm-title-synopsis-for-first-adventure-game

The BBC has today released the title and plot details for the first instalment of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games!

City of the Daleks follows the Doctor and Amy Pond as the TARDIS materializes in 1963, where they find London in ruins. The Daleks have seized control of time and the only chance of saving Earth lies in a desperate quest to Skaro, the Daleks’ home planet, before time catches up with Amy, the last survivor of the human race. It will feature the Doctor’s first ever visit to the Dalek capital city, Kaalann.

Its co-writer, Phil Ford, said: “This is quite a series opener. We destroy London even before the credits role – so you can only begin to imagine where we travel to from there. City of the Daleks is as big-budget as you can imagine: from London we head to Kaalann, the capital city of the Daleks, one constructed from pure anger and hate. And these new Daleks don’t like to be messed with, so players are about to enjoy a new interactive episode which is as heart-pulsing as anything you’ve seen before.”

City of the Daleks will be available to download from the official website from 5th June.

bbc-unveil-brand-new-interactive-games

The BBC have today unveiled details of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games, a series of brand new interactive adventures which will be released for download on the official website later this year!

Written by Phil Ford and James Moran, the games will feature the Doctor and Amy Pond, with original voice-overs from Matt Smith and Karen Gillan. They – and the various adversaries they’ll encounter – have been digitally recreated by Sumo Digital, the UK’s leading game designer.

The score for the adventures has been provided by musical composer Murray Gold, and an additional cast will be portraying original characters and iconic foes.

Full details are yet to be confirmed, but we’ve been told that there will be four two-hour computer games available for download for free for both PC and Mac. Players assume control of the Doctor and Amy as they embark on new adventures, journeying throughout time and space - including one location from the series which has never been seen on screen before…

“Children don’t just watch Doctor Who – they join in. They make up games, invent their monsters, create their own stories,” showrunner Steven Moffat explained. “Now, there’s something else – now they can be the Doctor in brand new episodes. Doctor Who: The Adventure Games will offer fans of the Doctor a unique opportunity to enter his world, face his challenges and grapple with his deadliest foes.”

Piers Wenger, Executive Producer, continued: “There aren’t 13 episodes of Doctor Who this year, there are 17 – four of which are interactive. Everything you see and experience within the game is part of the Doctor Who universe: we’ll be taking you to places you’ve only ever dreamed about seeing – including locations impossible to create on television.”

The first instalment of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games is set to be released in June 2010. More details will be revealed at a special press event on 21st April in Sheffield.

October 9th, 2009

happy-birthday-whoviannetToday is a very special day for us, because we officially turn two years old! That’s right – on October 9th 2007, we waved goodbye to our sanity forever as we waved a big hello to a brand new domain and a not-quite-so-Piczo-anymore website. WhovianNet.co.uk was officially born!

We could’ve never even imagined that we’d still be here 730 days later, and we’ve changed quite a bit since our launch…

But, our purpose has always been the same - to provide all of you with the very latest in Doctor Who, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures news, discussions and information!

We know that 2 years isn’t that long compared to some of the other fansites, but it’s a huge achievement for us and we’d just like to thank each and every one of YOU for all your continued support, whether you’ve stuck with us since the very beginning, or if you’re visiting us for the first time today. We’d literally be nowhere if it wasn’t for all of you, so thank you to everyone who has ever visited and made all our hardwork worthwhile! As the Ninth Doctor would say, you’ve been fantastic!

So, two years down, and, hopefully, many more to come. We’re certainly very busy here at the moment as we gear up for the third series of The Sarah Jane Adventures, and after that, our attention will turn to the remaining Doctor Who specials…

Our advent calendar will be back in December, too, and we can promise that that will include lots of exclusive downloads and festive cheer as we countdown to Christmas, and part one of David Tennant’s regeneration two-parter - boo! We’ll also be bringing you some polls and discussions over the coming weeks to celebrate the Tenth Doctor era and to send him off in style!

Don’t forget that you can also send in your contribution for our Christmas scrapbook which we’ll be sending to David at some point in December.

So, a big thanks again, and as the old saying goes – time flies when you’re having fun!

captain_jack_coe_juneThe BBC Press Office has at long last confirmed that Torchwood: Children of Earth will air in the United Kingdom in television Week 27 (July 4th to July 10th 2009).

While all five episodes are currently “Unplaced” on the BBC One schedule, it’s safe to assume that the mini-series will air from Monday 6th July through to Friday 10th July, and probably at 9pm each night.

As well as that, the website also gives a brief synopsis for each part, which you can read below:

Children of Earth: Day One – Monday 6th July (TBA)
An ordinary day becomes one of terror, as every single child in the world stops. A message is sent to all the governments of Earth: “We are coming.” But, as a trap closes around Captain Jack, the sins of the past are returning and long-forgotten events from 1965 threaten to reveal an awful truth.

Torchwood is forced underground as the government takes swift and brutal action. As members of the team are hunted down, Britain risks becoming a rogue state. Meanwhile, the mysterious and powerful 456 draws ever-closer.

Captain Jack, Gwen and Ianto are helpless as events escalate to such a degree that mankind faces the end of civilisation itself.

Children of Earth: Day Two – Tuesday 7th July (TBA)
As the new Torchwood adventure continues, the team is forced underground when the government takes swift and brutal action. With members of the team being hunted down, only Lois holds the key to Torchwood’s salvation. But she is helpless as her superiors make plans for the mysterious Floor 13.

Children of Earth: Day Three – Wednesday 8th July (TBA)
The eyes of the world turn to Britain, as the 456 announce: “We are here,” as the new Torchwood adventure continues. As a pillar of fire descends upon London, the members of Torchwood must battle to protect their own families as the fight gets personal. But will Clem’s memories destroy everything?

Children of Earth: Day Four – Thursday 9th July (TBA)
Torchwood finally learns the truth about the events of 1965, as the adventure continues. But Britain is in danger of becoming a rogue state, and everything now pivots around John Frobisher, as the Ambassador of the 456 destroys its old allegiances and reveals its true intent.

Children of Earth: Day Five – Friday 10th July (TBA)
Torchwood is defenceless and Gwen Cooper stands alone, as the final sanction begins, in the last part of the new Torchwood adventure.

As violence erupts and the world descends into anarchy, an ordinary housing estate becomes a battleground, where the future of the human race will be decided.

Let the countdown commence!
