Doctor Who movie in the pipeline?

Russell T Davies is currently working on a new Doctor Who film starring David Tennant, according to various reports this week.
The rumours were sparked after ‘DR WHO - THE MOVIE’ was discovered on the writer’s agency profile, but the listing has since been removed from the website after tabloids got hold of the news.
It’s thought that Davies, who will step down as the show’s executive producer and head writer after this year’s specials, has signed a deal with BBC Worldwide to produce the movie, with Tennant signing up to appear as the Tenth Doctor.
A source told the Sun newspaper: “He is secretive about Doctor Who. Let’s hope the rumours are right.”

That would be… intriguing. I’m not against the idea, but there would be the inevitable questions about canonicity. If it’s 10th Doctor, where would it fit?
Oh! River Song! Assuming she won’t be in the specials, would it be too much to hope for that she would feature in a possible film? I suppose it would. That’s playing with fire a bit.
It won’t happen. This is just tabloid fodder. Why would they go to the limit of hurting matt smith’s start up of the role if they are just going to bang out a dr who movie WITHOUT the current doctor. Besides I think the closest they got to a film was stolen earth/journeys end and that work just fine.
They just wouldn’t do it now. This is the worst possible time for them to do it. To be honest, I would put money on it being put there purely to fuel tabloid speculation.
I get the impression a Who movie would flop anyway. It would ruin the magic of the TV show.
I’m a little young to remember it well, but the last movie didn’t do THAT that badly, did it? I mean, it wasn’t massive, and it was ridiculously controversial in its content, but enough people watched it? And though it may take away from the magic, don’t the books do that? And the interactive shows? None of it is exactly canon, it all gives discordant spins on our show, and I still have 34 BBC Doctor Who books in my line of sight.
I think the fans would love it because it’s Doctor Who and however discerning and dismissive we may be, we still watch every week. I’d like to see a movie, because I missed out last time and because I’m a teenaged fanatic who always wants more. Just more. Of everything.
I’m only 14, so I didn’t see the last movie either, but it always seems to be half forgotten when people talk about Who which makes me feel that it was fairly unremarkable and not up to standards.
With the magic, books and interactive stuff don’t have to be completely canon because they aren’t as mainstream and popular as a film would be. A Doctor Who film would have to be absolutely outstanding to fit the expectations everyone has for it. I just don’t think that will be possible.
Don’t get me wrong, I would definitely watch the movie if they made it and there is a chance that it could be absolutely great, but I really think that it could be a mega-hyped film that really doesn’t live up to all of the build-up.

This whole thing about a movie written by RTD is something that’ll never happen, though. RTD has said that he won’t be writing for Doctor Who again as he wants to move onto to other projects.
