I think a lot of the reason though, Steve, is that the BBC is trying to turn its attention away from London, and work in other parts around Britain, such as Cardiff.
I do agree that they need to work on making better shows.
And yes, this does look like very good news for the future of DW!

I think this is absolutely appalling news. BBC have a TV centre in London, which I found out via the Planet Of Fire DVD, is nearly empty and not used. Also the BBC should not be allowed to waste licence money or money made through BBC Worldwide on building projects when they feed absolute rubbish on TV today. Most of the crap the BBC churn out is audience grabbing reality tv or quiz style programs. All money made by the BBC should be reinvested into the BBC Charter of providing Quality TV, even Doctor Who has suffered from this empire building ethos that now runs through the corporation.

Of course the biggest news for Who fans should be the strong indication that there will still be Doctor Who and Sarah Jane being produced come 2012!
