But sometimes it shows when an author is investing too much of themselves in a character. Adric could have been a very interesting character, but "Full Circle" was a tough place to have to start out. He was much better when Terrence Dicks was writing him. Many later writers just didn't know what to do with him, though. Rose didn't have quite that problem, mostly because of the tight rein of Davies. (It's interesting, having the executive producer and script editor be the same person. Definitely affects things.) She had a clearly defined role. But it got way too big by the end, because her creator got to keep writing her all the way to the end. Plus side: she had a better end than Adric did. Down side: her end was ridiculously over-the-top. Amy's fine, IMHO. She's no Sarah Jane, but then, who is? ;-) BTW, don’t get me wrong — I liked Adric, and I liked Rose too. Rose was the second-biggest Mary Sue in the history of Who. (The biggest was Adric.) I'm feeling old, hearing people call the days of Rose, Martha, and Donna "the old days".
