It was explained in AGMGTW that being conceived in the Tardis warped Melody’s DNA so it resembled that of a Time Lord. Thus she is still the Ponds’ daughter while being a bit Time Lord.

I really, really hope Moffat doesn’t kill them off. I’m far too emotionally invested in both of them, it would be too upsetting. I’ll be sad to see them go, but it’ll be ok as long as they’re granted a happy ending.

I have loved Amy and Rory being on the show! Their story has been great. But I would love to see something fresh and new, it’s been two years of having Amy and Rory now, so I think we need someone who is helpful. And for once, I think Doctor Who needs a male, single companion on their own rather than a girl or married couple. Someone like, I dunno… Daniel Radcliffe? (Harry Potter) Since the producer of HP is doing a DW movie, they should use Daniel for the main show! I imagine how the adventures will be.
The One thing which won’t be the same once Amy and Rory leave is, what’s going to happen about River? There are still many questions to ask about her involving the Ponds, such as, how is she related to the Pond’s if she’s part time lord?

My thoughts on Amy and Rory are pretty undecided really. I know I will miss them when they leave, but they have been on the show long enough and their story has been told. I hope they don’t get killed off, but they get a happy ending which they deserve. If Rose and the Duplicate Doctor were to come back though, that would be just AMAZING!

The sensible side of me is thinking, well, it’ll have been two-and-a-half series by the time they leave (from what the Moff said) so that really is quite enough time – longer than anyone since the reboot, and their main arc has been completed so maybe it’s time.
But the OTHER side of me is going, No, no, no, no, no, Moffat, what are you doing? I love the Ponds – I only got really into Who in Series 5 so the Ponds are MY companions like Eleven is MY Doctor – and their arc is nowhere near finished, okay most of the River mystery has been cleared up but there are questions both old and new still to answer concerning Series 5 and 6, the Silence, the Question, Amy’s house etc etc etc etc. So. That’s my opinion.

I don’t think Moffat will kill either of them off – he’s gone so far into establishing their love that to kill one would be too awful. Still – it’s Steven Moffat, I suppose.
