I call it Miracle Day because it didn’t feel like Torchwood, it felt like a new show with a couple of characters from the old show. I’ve said it too much, perhaps, but Torchwood was always about being in Wales, aliens, the hub, the SUV, the technology.
They were the Torchwood Institute, whereas in Miracle Day, Jack and Gwen were almost like relics who, at the same time, couldn’t accept Torchwood was gone whilst also being glad it was. I found that quite sad.
Torchwood died with Owen, Toshiko, Ianto and the Hub when it exploded. Even thinking of Miracle Day in the same context as them feels strange, like I’m talking about two different shows.
I doubt they can recapture the feel of Series 1 to 3 now, in all honesty.
]]>I’d suggest rewatching it if you can. I found it much more enjoyable on my second run and towards the end it feels more like Torchwood than a second-rate US sci-fi show.
]]>Tbh, I think TW recahed its peak with Children of Earth and will never be that great again. Also TW is very much a product of the RTD era of Doctor Who, by which time in 2013 we’ll be long past.
I feel TW is a very tired show and needs a long rest after the next series and should come back several years later in a revived format, called something like ‘Torchwood: Reborn’. Because the only people who are truly excited about the show now are the fans, as its been so inconsistant in its quality and format, so casual viewers are left confused. TW could have been a truly classic sci-fi show like DW, but all its potential has been wasted due to the constant format changes, yet had it stayed the same it could have gone on for years to come.
I like TW are much as the next fan, but it’s time for it to end and RTD to move on, especially after the abrupt ending to The Sarah Jane Adventures.
