The Peter Cushing films were, more or less, just remakes of existing Doctor Who stories to cash in on the popularity of the Daleks.

“It’s been claimed there would be a separate Doctor with a different continuity – of course there won’t,” – And yet, the BBC already allowed an alternative Doctor in the 1960’s with Peter Cushing! – So logically, if the BBC knows they could make money from a film reboot, I don’t see how they would not take the risk!
