While I’m waiting for the final episode I figured I should fix a couple of things that screwed up this episode for me.

Danny Pink dies but he’s got an heir…easy. Just make Clara pregnant! Now Danny can stay dead and yet have a future!

The Mistress/Master should be a joke. Just make her the Rani and all’s well that end’s well! After all the Master knew her.

QUESTIONS: So after finding out why he was cold why didn’t Danny change how he wanted to be buried? 2) Why didn’t Danny tell Clara the last thing she said to him? Surely that would have convinced her who he was…

Addendum: in my mind, the severity of personality change due to a gender shift might be why the event is apparently rare in Time Lords. As a species, they tend to have quite strong personalities (which is perhaps a prerequisite for surviving regeneration). The Master is no exception, of course, but anyone, no matter how strong, can be broken, even if just temporarily. And then perhaps their personality doesn’t control the change as well. Perhaps the more traumatic the regeneration, the more the result will differ from the predecessor.

Just a thought, anyway.

@Greg Campbell Of course there are differences between men and women. Does that mean a Time Lord couldn't regenerate into a woman? No. It just means the experience will have consequences on his/her psyche. One's physical form does have an impact on one's personality, and it's obvious that as Time Lords regenerate, even in the same gender, their personalities can change quite a bit. I would expect the same to happen in a gender-swapping regeneration, only more so.

An utterly awful decision to gender swap the Master, if this is anything other than possession of the only available body then I’m switching allegiance to the ‘Moffat must go’ party and paying my full years membership in advance.

There are far more differences between men and women than physical characteristics, therefore a female Master will not be recognisably the same character imo. I’m all for strong female characters who are the Doctor’s equal, so why not bring back an established one or create a new one rather than simply creating controversy for controversy’s sake.
