This announcement was made out of the blue without any hints beforehand like the BBC usually do, so it was quite a surprise.

I know the Doctor has travelled with 3 permanant companions (IE: Not Rory, Amy and River) in the Classic Series, but he hasn’t in the revived era. As such, I’m not sure how the dynamic will play out between them. Will the Doctor have to compete for screen time with three other people in every episode and is she capable of doing that? … I guess time will tell.

No opinion on the casting, except to say that it’s interesting that the rumours about Bradley Walsh being a companion have turned out to be true.
