Hundreds of fans gather at Bonhams Doctor Who auction

February 24th, 2010

cyberman-bonhams-auction-febThe much-publicized Bonhams Doctor Who auction took place in Knightsbridge, London, today, as over 300 fans arrived to bid on their favourite props from the series!

One of the biggest collections of memorabilia ever was on show at the event, with costumes and monsters from both classic and new episodes presented in the historic collection. As BBC News reports, the success story of the day was a full size Dalek from the 1985 Sixth Doctor serial Revelation of the Daleks, which was sold for £20,400!

Meanwhile, the waitress attire worn by Kylie Minogue for her portrayal of short-lived companion Astrid Peth in the 2007 Christmas special, Voyage of the Damned, was purchased for £3,120, while Billie Piper’s costume from Series 1’s Rose fetched £1,020.

One fan exterminated other bidders (not literally, mind!) and walked away with the Tenth Doctor’s suit from Voyage of the Damned for £5,040, while another reached £3,120 for Jackson Lake’s costume, as worn by David Morrissey in the 2008 Christmas special, The Next Doctor.

The lowest bid went towards a speaker featured in the 2006 festive episode, The Runaway Bride, which went for £42.

Just out of curiosity: Was the auction for charity or just for the BBC?
(I’m stuck in America and a bit out of the loop with these British things)
