Neve McIntosh discusses Series 5 role
In a new interview with the Perthshire Advertiser, actress Neve McIntosh comments on her guest role in two episodes of the upcoming fifth series of Doctor Who, as well as her thoughts on new Time Lord Matt Smith.
Fans who follow filming developments will no doubt be aware of just who, or what, she’ll be portraying, and her quote could be considered as the first official confirmation regarding the return of this particular foe. For those of you who would rather remain spoiler-free, we’ve hidden the extract below. Highlight the white space to read!
“I think Matt’s going to be really good, the best yet out of the new guys, and plus the stories have got a bit darker,” she told the newspaper. “I play twins, and they’re big lizardwarrior women, one of the Silurian tribes that have been undisturbed under the Earth. And of course we get disturbed!”
She added: “It’s the first time I’ve worn prosthetics but I’m still recognisable if you know me well enough. But there’ll probably be lots of people going, ‘Who the hell is that?’”

Oh Silurians. Brilliant. Lets hope they have a bigger role than the Autons!
‘Two upcoming episodes’ – a double parter, presumably. Cool! I don’t know anything about the Silurians, really – would someone care to enlighten me?
@TSG
They were in an episode with the sea devils one time but thats all I know
I thought Moffat was against bringing back classic monsters to the new series
@TSG
Jon Pertwee – Doctor Who and the Silurians – 7 episodes
Jon Pertwee – The Sea Devils – 6 episodes
Peter Davison – Warriors of the Deep – 4 episodes
Google!!!!
@pirko
Yes, I thought that, however, I have a feeling the Daleks have some kind of clause int he new series contract about appearing,
Nothing wrong with bringing them back though, as long as the stories are worth it. Rose and Gridlock were appalling stories to reintroduce old enemies. Either could have used any off the shelf monster.
@TSG
Chris’ two-parter, to be precise (which makes sense considering that Episodes Eight and Nine were filmed before the preview was released).
Seek out Doctor Who and The Silurians, a Jon Pertwee story from 1971. Brilliant (slow by todays standard – seven 1/2 hour episodes
.
@Steve
I loved ‘Rose’, but I agree that ‘Gridlock’ really didn’t do the Macra justice. Even having never seen the original, the ep made it clear that they weren’t exactly using them to their fullest potential: “They must have devolved.” They were never really resolved, they were just left in the bottom of the motorway, and generally were just a plot device. Shame, that.
I loved ‘Rose’ (well its the reason I became a lover of the show’. I thought the autons were a perfect series 1 episode 1 villain as it was something that we could all relate to and it didnt feel fannish to have them. If the series had come back and plunged straight into the daleks, it would have been too much.
I agree that gridlock wasnt brilliant and tbh the macra did feel like a fannish villain to bring back. Just felt like they were not needed
