Watch & Discuss: New Series 5 Trailer!
As promised, the second official trailer for Series 5 of Doctor Who, a specially-shot CGI sequence to promote its imminent launch, has had its nationwide debut!
Not only did it bring us some new and intreguing shots of the Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond whirling through the time vortex (as you do!), but it also came with a dollop of reassurance that the new series is definitely on its way – and it’s about time too!
What did you think of tonight’s thrilling trail? How many times have you replayed it? Has watching it made you even more excited for their upcoming adventures, or is it just a painful reminder that the show as we know it is changing before our very eyes?
Feel free to leave your thoughts and discuss your outlandish theories in the comments of this post! Have your say today! Geronimo!
Our first look at Series 5 was unveiled on New Year’s Day following the broadcast of The End of Time, Part Two.

I think it is funny the way people are abusive when I point out the truth! The trailer is great. Getting better each time I view it. Certain people on here hate that some one new is now the Doctor and are out to bring down the program before it starts. I think it is a shame that people throw more vile at the new Trailer rather than enjoying the teaser for what it is.
@No. 3
Doh yes I was obviously over excited lol
Wait until NBC get hold of Dr Who, screw RTD as they did Conan O’Brien and cast Jerry Seinfield as The Doctor and Britany Spears as The Assistant, then we will all have something to swear about.
@Steve
I hate when I have to explain the obvious: “I didn’t say you have, hence the quotation marks” meaning, “I was basically quoting every one of your posts in this discussion topic”.
I really hope they don’t try to do the romance thing between Amy and the Doctor. It looked too forced when they were staring into each other’s eyes… With Rose it sort of worked, but I prefer DW when the assistant isn’t annoyingly in love with the Doctor (ahem Martha)
And by assistant I mean companion. Oops
It’s just an advert. Not as exciting for me as the ‘Coming Soon’ trailer from New Year’s Day but I bet the kids enjoyed it. Doctor Who has to appeal to a larger age group than any other programme.
@ gallifrey_ lol, I’m in total agreement with you on both Martha and Amy and Eleven, though twas the Martha comment which made me chuckle.
As for the trailer, I too had hoped to see some clips from upcoming episodes but I am very glad to see the BBC knows it has to work to maintain its current audience. As someone who enjoyed DT’s run as Ten, I agree MS has big shoes to fill, but as a person who has watched since childhood, it’s hardly the first time the outgoing Doctor has left a hole in the collective heart of Whovianism and I daresay it won’t be the last. Here’s to spring, eh?
Have to say, after watching the first trailer for series 31/Fnarg/Five/11-1/5.1 etc etc… On New Years, this has left me kind of flat. The first trailer had me intrigued. This left me with “Too corporate BBC let’s do this ‘cos it’s going to be in 3-D”. And the accompanying “jingle” music had no connection with what was going on in the trailer…
The opening shot on the hill promised, maybe a teaser…
(Remember those great teaser trailers when Eccleston was the Doctor?…)
Yes the fans will be divided as always. but, if you want to get memebers of Joe Public interested in this series, that’s a prime example on how not to do it.
And yep as a long time fan, I am greatly looking forward to Matt as the Doctor, but please take note Mr. Moffat. No more trailers like that. I find it hard to believe he could’ve sanctioned that….
I loved the little bit on the hill. It harks back to New Earth and Partners in Crime. Little hint of continuity.
I’m excited, when DT left it was the end of a relationship, a big downer. Now I’ve seen the 2 trailers, it’s like starting a whole new relationship, it’s exciting. I’m nervous for MS but he looks like a great Doctor
Not taking sides here, but I just wanted to point out that DT was the current Doctor at the time of the poll. Eccleston won when he was still in the role. The current Doctor almost always wins, so that fact is pretty much irrelevant to how good they are.
I’m not sure what the new season will be like, but I’m very hopeful now that Moffat has taken over from RTD. Maybe we’ll get some coherent plots and realistic characters with more than one dimension from now on.
I don’t think it was a great trailer, but I think a lot of the abuse thrown at it by detractors is probably down to a mixture of frustration that there are no more actual episode snippets to salivate over, or that a lot of people for some reason think the show can’t possibly work now the lead actor has changed. Even though the lead actor changing every few years is a fundamental part of the show and it’s long lived success.
That weird alien head bursting through at the end though, what the hell was that? Surely everyone making the ad must have realised how rubbish it looked? No?
WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT ALIEN HEAD THING THAT POPPED OUT FROM THE HILL AT THE END!!!! FEAKY BUT COOL!!! so does anyone know what it was???? i think the new doctor is quite hilarious when david tennant transformed into the new doctor, OH NO I HAVE LOCKS!!! funny!
AWW MAN! david tennant was a GREAT doctor, he was far most the best doctor EVER! he was hilaious, more adventurous, showed emotions a few times, and was COOL!!!!!!! if ANYONE i mean ANYONE disagrees that he was the greatest of all the doctors, u have something wrong with you! the new doctor is still quite good, and i want to see how he acts…. hope he’s good too, then there will be a huge disscusion about who was the best ever!!
@WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT ALIEN HEAD THING?!?!?!
To put it simply: watch Episodes Eight and Nine to find out
