As Saturday draws ever closer, the BBC have released a batch of episode stills from The Hungry Earth ahead of its transmission this weekend.

The story, the first of a two-parter, sees the reptile-like Silurians make an untimely return to the Whoniverse, when, in 2015, the most ambitious drilling project in history reaches deeper beneath the Earth than man has ever gone before. When the Doctor, Amy and Rory arrive, they’re drawn into battle with an evil from a bygone age.

The Hungry Earth airs this Saturday at 18:15 on BBC One and the BBC HD channel.

    That was what burst out of the ground at the end of the vortex trailer for Season 5
